New England Cheating?

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Mon Sep 10, 2007 7:03 pm

Officials confiscated video tape and have interviewed the camera man. He apparently was videotaping NY defensive coaches all game. Interestingly enough, this is the second time it's happened. The first occurrence? November 19th, 2006. The opponent?

The Green Bay Packers.

So that's what's going on. I was watching ESPNEWS and saw this in their breaking news box and was wondering what was up with that.

Wouldn't put it past Belichick at all, especially in a game where he's going against Mangini. I've hated the Patriots for a while and this will only add to it.

Those cheating SOB's.

Why would they cheat on the game vs. the Packers though? Our team was awful.

Cheaters need to practice cheating to be good at it. However, I don't really believe stealing signals should be cheating if it is done without intercepting radio communications. No different than a guy on 2nd looking at the catchers signs if you ask me. If there stealing signals, they must be to easy to decode. Simple solution is to make them more difficult. If your players are not smart enough to figure it out, draft smarter players.

Well I just read an article that the NFL has rules against video taping signals, so I guess it is wrong to steal signals if you do it electronically.

Just punish them and get it over with. It shouldn't be more than that.

ESPN reported an option for the league office is to take away next years draft or at least draft picks. I'm sure the NFL will investigate this over then next few weeks.

Andy Reid at Lambeau on Sunday had some guys walking around him holding up what looked like big bath towels......seemed like major overkill to prevent any type of signal stealing....

But based on this, maybe he knew what was coming down......

I think this happened years ago in the Bart Starr and Forest Gregg era's. I can remember the Bears coming out later and claiming they had all the Packers signals down. One of those games was a 61-7 drubbing, so it was certainly plausible.

Trying to gain an advantage is the norm in sports, but when you're talking about videotaping stuff during a game and messing with radio frequencies, that's taking it a bit far and crossing the line.

ESPN just reported that the league office confirmed the tape showed evidence of taping opponents signals. I wonder what Roger will do, probably draft picks like mentioned yesterday.

Agreed. It makes you wonder if that may have had something to do with the Pats miraculously shut down the Colts receivers with their secondary decimated. If this is true, they need to look back into their super bowl runs.

Here's some great quotes from the ESPN link. The video-taping is minor league compared to hacking the audio:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3014677

"....Goodell is considering severe sanctions, including the possibility of docking the Patriots "multiple draft picks" because it is the competitive violation in the wake of a stern warning to all teams since he became commissioner, the sources said. The Patriots have been suspected in previous incidents...

The league also was reviewing a possible violation into the number of radio frequencies the Patriots were using during Sunday's game, sources said. The team did not have a satisfactory explanation when asked about possible irregularities in its communication setup during the game. "

People are pretty sick of New England at this point....so maybe Goodell will throw the book at them. The big thing to me is the radio frequencies. If for the last few years New England has been hacking into the headset communication of the other coaching staff do we re-think the Belichick genius label? Or was he a genius for doing it?

Damn...what the hell if the Pats knew the other team's play the last few years before it was run?

:D How is using NE's cheating as an excuse as to why Rodgers might have looked lost out there, considered "bashing?" I'm no Rodgers basher.
