Revisiting the Jeff Green for Ray Allen trade.

It has been just about two years since the trade of Ray Allen and a second round pick was traded for Wally Z, Delonte West, and Jeff Green.

Wally Z and Delonte West didn't even last a season and in return the Thunder saved salary and eventually ended up with Thabo.

But does anyone remember who that second round pick was that got shipped to Boston with Ray Allen?

As of today Boston is looking like they made out like bandits. Obviously they won a ring and Ray had a large part in that.

And of course Jeff Green is a nice player and will only get better.

But Big Baby has obviously shown he can play in the league. He is putting up numbers better than Green's season average in the playoffs.

Big Baby is making this trade really lop sided in Boston's favor right now.

the trade would have been great if they hadn't gotten rid of west for nothing as part of the tank job.

also there's a reason nobody wanted glen davis, he wasn't even that great in his rookie year or this year's regular season. and i'm sure a former seattle fan wouldn't extol the virtues of valuing a notoriously lazy, overweight big man in a contract year on the basis of one playoff run.

Obviously in the now, they got killed on this. Even with Davis playing relatively well with Garnett out, I don't feel like he's much more than most other "energy" role playing post players... he's got some very nice touch around the basket and a decent jump shot. I think that DJ White could play a similar role for us.

I'm not sure if they could've gotten more for a star like Ray, but the trade needed to be made if they were truly going to rebuild. If Green (or whoever they would've taken at 5) would've ended up not doing very well, then this would've been a horrible trade. However, Green looks like a guy that could be a #3 option on a very high level team for 10 years. To me, that is worth it when you're rebuilding.

I still don't like the fact they got rid of Delonte West so cheaply.

West and Thabeet would add athleticism, defense and energy to the starting lineup. Delonte blocks shots, drives to the hole and hits threes as well.

Yeah we should have shipped Earl and Ridnour(later shifted) and kept West. Not sure what they were thinking.

It was a Presti move to ship Delonte out of the Sonic/Thunder franchise.This maybe due to the way Presti loves high character guys.

And what's wrong with West's character? Too many tatoos?

Anyway, it's a tough call on Big Baby. He might not be the player he is today without KG next to him.

Delonte West WANTED OUT of Seattle. He did not like the situation that was brewing with the ownership and the city of Seattle.

He hated his role, which was no role.

PJ couldn't pick a set guard rotation to save his life. Personally I think that was all part of the tank job ownership was doing to lose fan interest.

Delonte West also struggled miserably when he was on the court. Sure now it looks like West is the clear pick out of the three. But back then he didn't do himself any favors by his play.

It doesn't hurt to be playing with a 24 year old LeBron James. Not a 19 year old Kevin Durant.

Honestly I think I can count on one hand how many good games Delonte had as a Sonic.

Of course neither Luke or Earl had many decent games either. PJ simply messed with all their heads.

PJ wanted West to be more of a pure point. Cleveland doesn't need that with Mo Williams and Lebron James.

And "Big Baby" just made himself big dollars hitting that bucket last night.

west was traded (with szczerbiak) to shed salary and to further alienate the seattle fans, that much was the common thought at the time. sam presti wouldn't trade west due to lack of performance over the course of half a season, that's ridiculous. when the team acquired him he was part of the "rebuild process" which justified the ray allen trade. then all of the sudden he's part of a salary dump, i don't buy it.

big baby's going to disappoint some team next year that's for certain.

Big Baby to me could turn out to be a solid Sixth Man if he continues to work hard towards bettering his game. The Celts will have to choose between him and Powe in terms of who they will bring back into the fold. Since Powe is out for the postseason and Davis is taking advantage of his opportunities while KG is out. More likely he will come back to the Celts. I wouldn't expect a contract no longer than 3yrs probably worth 6 to 9 mil. The Celts are closer to the lux tax, if not already over the tax.
