Big Man Shortage

Post#1 » by T-Wack » Sun May 10, 2009 5:38 am

The worst fact about Yao going down is the fact that we have no Dikembe, which means we have no Center. I am terrified of Chuck Hayes as our starting Center. Lakers were already extremely long, now we're going to be playing midgets against them. Hopefully Suck can at least D up on Gasol, though. God knows Yao wasn't going to any time soon.

Physically, our disadvantages just became serious. I still think we're going to be a better team without Yao, but I have no idea how we're supposed to rebound against these guys.

And this is probably the Rockets biggest problem, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bynum back in the starting lineup and the Lakers begin to pound the ball inside like they did against the Jazz. The tremendous length of Bynum and Gasol gave the Lakers so many second-chance opportunities the Jazz frontline was just over-matched, Ron Artest might be able to give the Rockets a fighting chance on the boards but I wouldn't count on it (if indeed Bynum starts).

I'm not sure what you mean? We have plenty of bigs.

PG: Brooks/Lowry/Barry
SG: Artest/Wafer
SF: Battier/Artest
PF: Scola/Landry/Hayes
C: Scola/Hayes/Brooks

Moofs,
I hope you were being a tad sarcastic, even tho I'd love to see the look on Gasol's face if Aaron Brooks was guarding him and the Lakers never passed it to him.

C: Scola,Hayes,Cook,Landry
PF: Landry,Artest,Hayes,Scola,Battier
SF Battier,Artest,Wafer,Barry,White
SG: Artest,Wafer,Lowry,Brooks,Barry
PG: Brooks,Lowry

Any foul trouble to Scola or Hayes will kill Rockets, and I bet Kobe tries to drive every other possesion.

At least with Yao out we should be better with the pick and roll with Kobe and Gasol that was killing us. Getting blocked shots will not be a problem since the Rockets are really good at taking charges. Hopefully the front court of Scola and Landry can be very active

I hope we still remain competitive, this series was fun to watch. It'd be a shame if we just roll over and give the Lakers the 2 wins.

If Brooks was on another team and guarding Yao, you KNOW our guards still wouldn't make the entry pass, so maybe it works for us too!

Since Brooks can't guard anyone, I hope he pulls a Rafer Alston while guarding Bynum or whoever he's covering. Just smack 'em on the head, Aaron. Smack 'em good. :D

Wow. I knew we'd be better without Yao, but I have to give major props to Hayes. He hasn't played this well for us in a long time.

lol... Of course he has. Dude who do you think defended Portland's bigs in critical moments or Lakers earlier in this series?

God when Yao is gone, I hope you leave too.

90% of your post focus on Yao. I can't fathom how you knew this team would be better without Yao after a horrible game by the Lakers. I guess game 1 was luck and Yao had nothing to do with it.

We get it, you don't like him. But damn at least realize how our season would of been with no Tmac or Yao. We would be in lottery land crying about season 13 without a playoff victory.

Er Bynum didn't play much in the Utah series because Utah have shooting bigs in Okur and Boozer. Hou doesn't present such problems with Hayes. I believe Bynum is vastly overrated by LA fans but if they stick Bynum/Gasol/Odom out there we're going to get destroyed on the boards.

There is no way... Chuck can barely make his layups. And have you seen him shoot free throws? If he's gone through prep leagues and all the way to the NBA shooting like that, then I'm afraid there is no changing him...

The "Chuck wagon" is a defensive force. There should be no doubt about that.
The problem is on the offensive end, he is a waste of space.

I know you folks will laugh at me for coming up this name... Eddy Curry.
Guy is stupid, low basketball IQ. But I think given the right coaching, he
can be a force. We already know he's a good low post scorer, like Andrew Bynum.

If Rockets somehow can find a way to stimulate his desire for the game of basketball,
then Curry can be a contributing force.

Unfortunately, Eddy Curry has a contract no one wanted. Unless he is waived by the knicks and sign for cheap, I don't expect any team would want Eddy Curry.
