Grizzlies Have Interest In Ioannis Bourousis

Apparently, it seems that 4 NBA teams have interest in Ioannis Bourousis. The Memphis Grizzlies, the Golden State Warriors, the Orlando Magic, and the San Antonio Spurs.

Bourousis would be a HUGE upgrade for our team, giving the Grizz possibly one of the best center rotation in the league.

Well, I only know Bourousis game from the international games and from the big euroleagues games. KWSN-Men probably could do a more accurate report.

Bourousis game remind me a extremely more inteligent Troy Murphy. He´s a face up PF/C who has 3pt range. He´s a very a good finisher around the basket. Great BBall IQ. Really crashes the offensive glass. Not very athletic, but can run the floor at a good speed (similar to Darko). Has a regular defensive presence, not being a great shot-blocker, but he´s always there to shut down the paint.

In fact, I was thinking these days about european player able to step up for us right now, and at the backcourt, I can´t see a more suited player (maybe Ersan Ilyasova) than Bourousis IMO.

Good stuff. He sounds a bit like Luis Scola. And Illyasova is a guy I have said before is worth seriously looking at. He's a tweener but at a young age he has lots of potential. He last played with the Bucks and he left for Europe and from what I can gather they have matching rights on any contract offers. Their GM recently said he wants to sign Illyasova, but Milwaukee also has a very high team payroll in a small market, and also have to try and figure out a way to re-sign both Ramon Sessions and Charlie Villineuva.

But Bourousis is an interesting player. With the recent story about the Grizzlies holding the free agent tryouts and Hollins and Wallace saying they are looking for hidden talent something like this might have a ring of truth to it.

I just watched a few youtube videos of Bourousis. I think he would be a great signing. He seems to have the complete package on offence of strength, shooting, footwork, and athleticism. I know these highlight videos rarely show defensive abilities but that would have been important to see. But he was one of the five All Euroleage Players this season so he must do okay on defense(Navvarro made that list as well).

Once again it shows that good players are out there as free agents if only a GM puts in the desire to go after them. Bourousis, Ilyasova, Carlos Delfino, Juan Carlos Navvarro, Josh Childress, just to name a few that could most definitely help out the Grizzlies. I'm sure that at least a couple of these guys are tied into their contracts but I bet a few of them aren't, and the Grizzlies, having good room under the salary cap, could make an attractive offer to two of these guys.

Use an expiring deal like Buckner or Milicic to move up in the draft to at least get Jordan Hill, then get Bourousis to take over the sixth man at center/power forward(or even the starting power forward in the Luis Scola mold), go after Delfino, Navvarro, or Childress as the combo shooting guard/small forward, and find a backup pointguard(which shouldn't be that difficult), and the Grizzlies could be looking improved going into next season.

I'm not saying this should be the exact plan but it does show the options are there if ownership is serious about being better next season rather than going for simply the three draft picks plus whatever minimum wage roster fillers they can find with their free agent camp.

Navarro has a $10 million buyout on his contract. He's never playing in the NBA again.
