Would we give this ANY thought?

Post#1 » by HTown_TMac » Mon May 11, 2009 4:50 pm

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... the_knick/

Tracy McGrady, with his microfractured knee and $22.5 million salary that comes off the books next July, could be a player the Knicks will pursue this off-season.

Frank Isola writes that the Knicks could swap the expiring contracts of Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley to bring in the big name with All-Star pedigree who could improve their shot at the playoffs. That would perhaps make the club more attractive to LeBron James.

There is no guarantee that McGrady will be ready for the start of next season.

Expirings for expirings... Mobley cant play, and Hughes simply sucks.

Not only is that purely speculation but that trade makes no sense. What is to be gained for Hou? The only thing I can think of is if NY throws in their first rounder (which should be considered depending on what prospects we might get in return) but then in the very next paragraph he talks about NY using their first round pick!

I would much rather keep Tracy than dish him off for washed up versions of Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley.

I think speculation should never be posted as a Wiretap Headline. It's not credible enough and makes RealGM look stupid.

First off, the Knicks don't have a first rounder next year. Isiah gave away an unprotected pick in the Marbury trade, which Phoenix traded to Utah. The only reason the Knicks might be interested supposedly is because we need the playoffs. So don't count on any first rounders being included. Cuttino Mobley just did a medical retirement so his contract will be picked up by insurance so your team would be saving hoowever man millions his contract is worth from your cap. Unfortunately, the Knicks would be expecting you guys to take on Curry or Jeffries extra year of salary as that is the only way a deal like this would really make sense for us so I highly doubt anything would get done that makes sense for both of us.

Don't the knicks already have enough space cleared for Lebron? If not that's the only reason I'd see them even thinking about this trade. We would probably like some big man back in the trade also, and NY doesn't really have any that we would covet. Who knows though, knicks are notorious for making bad trades....maybe Morey will give us another miracle this offseason =)

There are always this kind of rumors involving the Knicks and they always win in the hypothetical trades... we win nothing giving up McGrady for 2 expirings.
But i would trade Tmac for Wallace expiring and Delonte West. West can play as PG and SG and he is a solid defender, fits into this Rockets team.

That trade makes no sense. You are trading expiring for expiring. Keep him...see if he can help and if he can't his contract expires...win win situation for us.

Keep T-mac, i think after this season. He may finally wake up and realize 2 things.

1. He is surrounded by championship roster
2. He doesn't need to do it all anymore by himself

One more year to prove to the world, T-mac isn't gone.

But I have a feeling T-mac will be healthy and Yao will get a freak injury again before All-star Game. We rarely have these 2 players, playing together anymore.

Useless trade, We get absolutely nothing from it. Although T-mac has little value surely his contract could get us something a little better...

I think the premise is that you trade TMac Cook and Barry (roughly 29m) for Hughes and Mobley (roughly 23m), and you use that money to resign Artest.
Not saying you guys should do this, only explaining what the point would be.

Not sure we want either Tmac Yao, or Artest right now

or Mobley/Hughes expiring contracts for that matter

I hate to say it, but id rather see all 3 guys go, and we bring in a few guys, who are not injury prone or jump shot happy...

True,

If we don't bring in some young blood then there's no way we'd compete with a LA or Portland in the next couple of years. As much as I'd like to re-sign artest, he doesn't really provide anything for the future. I'd be happy to trade Tmac....sign-and-trade Artest for some lottery picks this or next year, thing is? Who would take the bait?

As much as people hate Tracy's downside of the offensive talent he was, he's just too special to trade for anything out there in terms of his ability to create for others and play above average defense. Tracy looks inspired and will work to get his speed back and when that comes back ala Amare's case, bang bang!!!

had he not elected for surgery

I think even a 50% Tmac would still have been good for this team...

but,

coming off the bench, with the second unit, and in the 4th to help close out games.

I doubt Tmac would have made that sacrifice for the team, even as he complained about being injured...
