For better or worst?

Post#1 » by geeman » Mon May 11, 2009 6:02 pm

There has been a lot of talk about Joe Johnson being more effective at the small forward postion than the shooting guard. What if we were to get a player...hum like Vince Carter to play sg and move joe to sf? It would provide us a real go to guy and would allow Joe to spot up more. Resign Mike for around 3 yr 21 mil and add a real up tempo pg. Keep ZaZa let Solo go.... Trade Marvin, Accie and S&T Chills. Add one more low post presents maybe a Chis Wilcox and were in set.

I don't really know who has been saying that Joe is more effective at SF than SG. I do think that the Hawks need another guy who can break down a defense to keep teams from focusing on Joe and Carter would fit that.

the local bozos on the the atlanta hawks radio are killing this team when no one expected them to get past the second round. I see the A## kicking as a useful tool to determin what wee need going foward. We have so many movable part to play with and I can't help but be excited about this team moving foward. I was a season ticket holder during there 13 game season. Now, this is were we see if Rick S. is the right GM

I think JJ is the perfect SG. He's got the ball handling skills, the size, the speed, the strenght and all. What I really miss about JJ's game is the spot up shooter he once was though. I know S. Nash had the ball in his hands, this way, JJ never really had to dribble for 15 secs as he does now. I blame a lot of that in the coach staff. They have worn the guy out in every way they can.

Personally, I find Joe to be more effective at the 3. The stats bear out the same. Check out 82games.com. Joe plays better at the 3. Our best lineup that saw a reasonable amount of court action was Bibby-Murray-Johnson-Smith-Horford. Joe flourished in PHO at the 3. He has the versatility to play either but I dont think there is any question that he is more effective at the 3.

Getting smaller at the 3 by putting Joe there doesn't make much sense to me. He doesn't have the heart to get inside to pound with the bigger small forwards, much less the 5's. Marvin at least is willing to show some heart and average 6.3 rpg. Joe at the 3 could possibly word for 82 games if we had a true big inside.

Marvin improved big time this past season and look for him to get a contract that keeps him in Atlanta.
Truthfully, I don't see Rick Sund making any major moves unless Bibby doesn't accept a 30-40% pay cut.
I don't expect Childress back in Atlanta either as he won't sign for 1/2 the amount he left last year.

We need some new energy on this team and we need to lengthen the bench a bit. Too many injuries at the worse time of the year.

More of the same next year, as the Hawks improved upon last year, and that will be enough to keep them intact.

THink theres any chance Woody gets the boot this offseason???

I think if we can get something good for Marvin, or instead of Marvin that would be great. I think it all depends on what we do with Marvin. I would love to keep him cuz i think he has a ways to improve and could be pretty good, but if we can get someone better that immediately makes the team better, im all for it. Im scared for this offseason cuz im thinking that the staff will keep most of this team intact which isnt the right move, and i doubt Woody will leave. We might win 50 games next year but we wont be any better, unless our balls drop for some reason, but I dont see it happenning.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

None whatsoever. Honestly. He has one more year on his contract and the team improved.

That's because the radio jocks along with many fans in ATL weren't Hawks fans during the bad times. As fans who have been with this team through thick and thin I think many of us can appreciate the progress that has been made much more so than a bunch of dopes who couldn't even rattle off the starting five until the C's series got interesting last year.

As for JJ at the 3, I think you can use him their situationally. We went on some great runs with the Flip/Bibby/Joe trio facilitating the offense. But it also can create mismatches defensively a lot of the time, so I don't think it's something we can do consistently.

I don't necessarily think Murry at SG and Joe at SF working for stretches is necessarily evidence that Joe is more effective at SF. I think it could just as easily be read that Joe is more effective with another guy who can consistently attack the defense.

Murray is an acceptable bench player. He cannot improve this team sliding Joe to the 3.
We need another big player, Ron Artest, to come in.

We need a big interior player to shut down the lane on dribble drives. Horford was not healthy enough this series and Zaza is serviceable off the bench.

Still, 2-3 holes to fill to be a better team.
