Very good points. Throwing the CBA around that, who really pays attention to the CBA, anyway?

I've said around here that we won't be getting anyone big without significant trades, but didn't ever do enough research to realize our finances would still be that tight.

HOU is still in a great position long-term no matter how people spin it, really. A lot of contracts come off the books in 2010 and that means HOU still can rebuild with a completely clean roster if they choose to break the team up. It's one of the reasons why I don't believe they are going to resign Artest. They are going to evaluate the team one last time next year and go from there.

On the flipside (and the side fans care about) he makes the point that it's not likely we're going to get Lebron or something. And it sort of sucks because right now our role players are really, really good. We're underpaying Scola by a lot and getting a lot of production from rookie contracts like Brooks and Lowry. This year we had the best supporting cast by far and was our best chance to win a championship w/ the 1-year Artest lease.

The poster assumes we'll resign Artest because we won't be competitive in the regular season but I don't agree w/ that. Not a top team for sure but we'll be in the playoff picture. It's not all rosy in terms of us being championship contenders in 2010 and beyond but I don't think anybody ever said that we would.

What the poster didn't get into was trades. Can't we do like a sign and trade to get wade? I'm sure if we really wanted to and Wade told the Heat, I'm going to houston so get back what you can, it would happen. We'd rid ourselves of Tmac, which would mean, we wouldn't need a lowry and wafer b/c we got wade. Also, if we don't resign Artest, we'd have even more money. I'm not worried about it b/c Morey already has every scenario calculated onto spreadsheets in his head.

Yes, our cap space in 2010 is definitely overblown.

True, I can see Morey being free from pressures of "get someone so we stay competitive" in favor of "do whatever's best for long-term planning" as well.

While many teams are focusing their attention on 2010/11 Free Agency. Rockets might consider to focus on 2009/2010 season if they can improve their squad and increase their chance to win a championship.

These rockets just need another good wing offensive players and a good backup center to contend again next season. I won't be surprised the rockets took some salary to get a good player instead of waiting for 2010/2011 FA splash.

In Morey we trust.. He already knows what he is planning to do, with 3 or 4 backup plans.
