Speedy Claxton did not attend the team

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue May 12, 2009 11:20 pm

Veteran Hawks point guard Speedy Claxton did not attend the team’s mandatory 10 a.m. meeting Tuesday.

By not making it, he may have cleared up the one lingering questions about the roster heading into the summer.

After three injury-ravaged seasons, he’ll be in the final year of his contract this summer. Claxton has talked openly about pursuing his opportunity to play the final year of his contract elsewhere.

“I haven’t spoken with Speedy,” head coach Mike Woodson said, “So I can’t tell you anything more about his situation.” Link

Speedy Claxton isn't on the team anyway as far as I'm concerned so I'll excuse him for missing the meeting.

Do y'all realize we could trade Speedy and Randolph Morris for TJ Ford?

And that IND might do it?

Make that trade, let Bibby go and we save $13.5 million.

Did someone say TJ Ford?

Seriously, what I like about Ford is that he's likely obtainable and he's on a short contract. As we've seen, guys on short contracts have a lot to prove...

Yeah, you did. And it's not a bad idea.

Why would Indy do that trade? Salary dump?

Oh yes sir sure sounds that way. Indiana wants cap relief someday in the next decade and have already shown a commitment to Jack.

For what it is worth, Indiana was a team that was very public about its financial loses. TJ Ford and Jarrett Jack seemed to be having trouble co-existing late in the year and Ford makes a lot to be the backup.

I've been a big fan of Ford for a while. It's still not too late for him to make the leap from good to really good similar to what Devin Harris did this year. We'd have to make our offense alot more pick and roll friendly to maximize his ability though.

I'm not sure that TJ could make the jump from good to really good, but both him and Speedy have something in common that Rick Sund doesn't like. They don't shoot the 3-ball that well. If we switched to an up-tempo offense TJ would be perfect though.
