Referee Prediction

Post#1 » by Banks2Pierce » Wed May 13, 2009 8:49 pm

I'd like to predict that the biggest homer ref in the league, Dick Bavetta is on Game 6 in Orlando.

Any other guesses?

It was between him and Salvatore, but I went with Dicky B.

Mods feel free to lock if I'm wrong.

They'll save him for Game 7 in Cleveland. (if we get there)

Absolutely the reffing crew tonight will include either Bavetta, Salvatore, or both. The league needs Orlando to win this...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I think it almost certainly is going to be Javie or Bavetta, as I don't think either has reffed in a few games.

If Salvatore is reffing, Bill Simmons will be right...he ALWAYS refs a game the home team absolutely *has* to win...

That is so true but he has already done at least game in this series.

Banks2Pierce nailed Dick Bavetta, with Danny Crawford (massive homer), Marc Davis (middle of the road).

That certainly stacks the deck. How can we go the whole postseason without Bob Delaney and Jack Neis? Are they even doing games? Or are they far too good at their job to be involved in the postseason and make all of the other officials look as incompetent as they are.

where's violet palmer? has she reffed in the playoffs? Are there certain refs who don't make the playoff roster? If so that would be interesting because it would tell you what the league thinks of them

I've seen her on a couple games. They whittle the crew down to fewer and fewer refs in each round. I think everyone does the first round.

I don't think Nies has done games at all this year. But I could have sworn delaney was reffing during the regular season, but I don't recall him the post season. Could explain why officiating is worse in general this year as those were two of the better senior refs. I was stunned at the last reffing crew we got as we didn't get any of the senior bigshots.

Yes, Bavetta is the old ref who was totally implicated by Donaghy but somehow has managed to skate...and he always refs games where a team needs to win and extend a series...

They did a C's game against the Grizzlies a week after some big prime time matchup against either CLE or LAL when the officiating was out of hand nobody even knew who they were.

Dulaney was a pretty high profile official, he was also an undercover fed, I wonder if he had something to do with the Donaghy situation and has sort of gone out of favor since.

Bavetta was the official who was fingered in the Kings/Lakers game 6. Much like Bennett he always seems to be calling the game the way the networks would want but I am sure it is just coincidence.
