Has Woodson been coaching the Pistons all this time?

If I'm right, it only means that I'm probably the last person to see this, but has anyone else noticed that our coach has been playing the 2003 Pistons team?

Look at how he uses our players:

Most egregiously, offensively he posts Smoove outside (like Rasheed Wallace) to "take advantage of his great 3pt shooting ability" while, on defense, he sometimes plays him at center.

He plays Horford as if he's Ben Wallace, running no plays for him on offense and asking him to provide interior defense and rebounding.

He plays Marvelous like Tayshaun Prince, asking him to be a all-around defender and to stay out of the offense, except to be a bail out when the shot clock is about to run out.

He wants Joe to play like Billups, to go one-on-one and shoot from deep.

And his best usage of Bibby is when Bibby moves around like Rip Hamilton, playing catch-and-shoot.

For years, I've felt that Woodson was trying to fit square pegs into round holes. Does he only know one way to play - from the time he spent in DET?

It's not a perfect fit, but I can see some of the similarities you mention. However, I don't think he really wants Josh shooting so many 3s. Also, we don't have anyone in the Rip Hamilton role of running through elaborate screens to get an open jumper or fire off a curl.

Rasheed had a poor shot selection and dislike for rebounding long before he ever met Woodson. Smith will probably be the same way when he plays for his next coach.

Can we talk Detroit into taking him?

Simply put, the square peg coach and the round hole players have lots to differ on.

I just think we could use a fresh approach to see if its the coach or the players?

Josh can easily stop shooting jumpshots. they might be open but that doesnt mean he needs to shoot them. He still sucks at shooting so why take them? At least Rasheed is a good shooter

I would perfer Amare, but i think Woody wants Bosh, because he is the guy whos game is the closes to Rasheed in his prime

Rasheed Wallace = Chris Bosh
Ben Wallace = Josh Smith

If he likes him so much, they might as well sign him for a discount since he's an aging UFA. Personally, I'd rather have Rip since he wants out.

When DET was looking to trade Billups for a PG with a season-ending contract, why, oh, why didn't we offer Bibby?

Billups and Joe. Billups to do the "dribbling thing" Woodson so desperately wants and Joe to play Rip Hamilton.

That was who I was panning for as well, long before we got Bibby. But the amount of $$ and the length was always a negative to some here.
Perhaps it is time to see if Josh Smith is of any value on the market? I truly don't believe he AND Woody will be here next year.

Good point. But at the same time, they were also looking for the cap relief and A.I. made a substantially larger amount than Bibby.

This isn't chess or football where players are placed in certain positions. I'd venture to say that Josh puts himself out there. I doubt Rasheed's coaches urged him to drift out and shoot 3's when he could kill other teams inside. Same goes for Antoine Walker, and Charles Barkley in Phoenix. A lot of people put way too much emphasis on coaching. This is a fairly free-flowing game, not a rigid x's and o's type of thing where every play is scripted and each player is exactly where the coach wants him to be on each play. Players dictate much more of what happens on the court than coaches do in this league. And the reason is that they usually make exponentially more money than the coaches so they know they can do whatever they want.

It's a combination of Josh being stubborn and stupid, and Woodson being unable to control him.
