Anyone else think Dan Majerle would have been a better hire?

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Wed May 13, 2009 4:33 am

Don't get me wrong I like Alvin Gentry and his LA Clippers teams he coached were fun to watch. As many positive factors as he has like a good guy and plays an exciting brand of basketball, he's pushing 60 and the style of offense that he runs is still frowned upon by NBA analysts or still say defense wins championships. Also I know age shouldn't be a factor but when Nash, Shaq, etc are gone and the Suns are going to be a rebuilding team and they will have a coach in his 60's coaching a rebuilding team. I know Mike D'anthony was the same way and that's why I wasn't to upset to see him go...

Thunder Dan always wanted to get into coaching and finally did last year when he was an assistant. I can understand why they hired Porter over him last year because they wanted one with some coaching experience. Right now though I'm wondering why Dan Majerle wasn't even in consideration to become the next coach, he has some experience, younger and seems to balance both offense and defense and is a players coach like Gentry. He's also a former Suns legend who the fans would have got behind if he were coach.

So the question is do you guys think the Suns made the right hire by promoting Gentry or do you think they should have hired someone else like Dan Majerle?

I'm happy with Gentry, and getting Thunder some more experience

Yeah hopefully Majerle takes over when Gentry's deal is up.

Every time I see the coaches huddling up before addressing the team during timeouts...they're all giving input except Majerle, who's looking up into the stands trying to find who knows what.

No, and Dan would be the first to agree with me.

He will be a good coach but it's not his time yet. The worst thing to happen right now to both the Suns and him would be if he got hired and turns out he's not ready and that would leave him with a bad rep and our team would get even worse.

I'd like him to take over once Gentry's deal expires. He's got a nose for aggressive defense while understanding that offense is just as important. Just like Porter, if they were given a young team, they would do great as a head coach.

I was actually thinking about V Del Negro. did an outstanding job with a young team. on the other hand, Bulls upper mgmt did a tremendous job surrouding him with an experienced coaching staff.

yeah he isn't ready yet to become a HC, Gentry is the best man for the team right now and age isn't that much of an issue.

Dan Majerle is not head coach material. I do think that Eric Snow will make a great coach.

Majerle doesn't seem to have the power to motivate players. He is short tempered, and i don't see players wanting to play for the guy quite frankly. Holla!
