Lakers 13-5 (72%) with Yao; NOW 1-4 w/out Yao

Post#1 » by Jordan-esque » Tue May 12, 2009 10:05 pm

*Update 05-12-09: Laker's first win against HOU w/out Yao; now 1-4*

To the theme of TNT's "E.J.'s Stat of the Night" for tonight:

Post Shaq era, the Lakers are a killer 13 - 5 record against the Rockets with Yao Ming in the line-up. That's a .722 Win Ratio in the Lakers favor. In fact, those rare 5 loses were only by a margin of 4.6 points and were mostly close battles (including overtime) that could've easily gone the Laker's way.

But... the Lakers have a worse 0 - 4 record against the Rockets when Yao Ming is out, trailing by double-digit blowouts (sometimes after blowing their own double-digit lead in the first place) while losing by an average of 10.3 points per game.

With Yao in:
The Lakers win .722 of the time, and could've easily won all those other close games.

With Yao out:
The Lakers have always lost, and they tend to lose BIG.

Lakers better not take this Yao-less team for granted ever, ever again.

Even if the Lakers build a big lead in the start, history has shown that this Yao-less team always makes a comeback and bite us in the butt... blow-out style.

that's an interesting statistic I wasn't aware of. I wonder what our record is when we start Jordan Farmar, which I hope we do.

Lakers record when Farmar starts...

Regular season: 2 - 0

Playoffs: 2 - 4
(1 - 0 vs Rockets '09)
(1 - 4 vs Suns '07)

the key with yao out is that they lack size on the front court, and if we get them in foul trouble like last night then that causes a lot of problems for them

but the rockets can go small on us without yao and have brooks run wild, like in game 4

I don't think it means anything. They are not better without Yao. I really hppe they crush the Rockets to get back in the race because if this goes to 7 or it comes down to the wire I got to say the Lakers are the third best team in the playoffs. If they kill the Rockets again I think they leapfrog the Nuggs and are as close as there gonna be for the Lebrons.

In most previous seasons, our team had Yao and Tracy McGrady and a bunch of scrubs,

This year and last year, we have had the best supporting cast of Yao's career. So it is much less surprising for the team to be able to win games without him.
