I'm confused as to why most of you have Howard in your top 5. He is still beasting it up, but he hasn't really elevated his game as much as I would have liked to see in the playoffs. I know the magic are missing some players, but that is even more of a reason for Howard to step up.

Garnett is on the tier above Dirk, and on Howard's? Now that's news to me.

Well, let's see your list then.

I think Gasol is the better rebounder, passer, and defender. Also, he hasn't had any attitude problems or gotten suspended like Carmelo, so that's a factor too.

Carmelo's definitely got the scoring edge though, no doubt about that. He's just too one dimensional for me to put over some of these guys. Maybe he can change my mind in the conference finals.

This is about Playing ability man not about how much you dislike a guy. Melo is a top ten talent.

Kobe
Lebron
Melo-He has proved himself in these playoffs for sure
Wade-He was very impressive in the first round...Carrying the heat
Dirk-He has put together an amazing playoffs.
Howard-His offensive is raw but a 20-20 in the playoffs is impressive
Artest-Say what you want but talent wise this guy is phenominal. D and O. Talent wise not attitude wise.
Billups-He has been a star in the playoffs and an amazing leader. He has been the Best pg in the playoffs and IMO all season.
Pierce-Say what you might but pierce is still one of the best players in the league. He is one of the main reasons the Celtics are still in the playoffs.
Garnett-When Healthy.

Tier 2 - As valuable as anyone, but old and gimpy. How will they come back?
6. Duncan
7. KG

Tier 3 - #1 franchise players but not quite with the best
8. Roy
9. Dirk
10. Yao

I don't dislike Carmelo at all. I wish he would act more mature sometimes, but I definitely don't dislike him...the facts are just the facts, he's gotten in trouble and that has to be taken into consideration.

Talent doesn't mean best player. Dwight Howard doesn't have a whole lot of talent, but his defense and rebounding are the best in the league, and he has enough post moves to keep you honest to go along with his elite athleticism.

You can't knock my list and then put Artest in your top 10. He's not top 10 any way you want to look at it. At least you can make a case for Carmelo and Billups, but Artest...no way. Artest doesn't have enough of an offensive game and his defense isn't good enough to compensate for that.

I dont see how you guys have yao in your top 10

I mean he is injured all the time and he is not consistent.

I gotta go

With

bron
wade
kobe
paul
howard
Dirk
Deron
Roy
Melo
Billups/Parker

This is my top 10 in the League as of today
The last three players are interchanghable

Earlier in the yr Kg or bosh or timmy would have had it over melo, but they were wither injured or faded down the stretch over the yr.

I don't really see Duncan or KG taking a step down next year. Duncan was playing top 5 MVP contender basketball before his injury, and KG was still a dominant 2-way player that didn't need to put up numbers on a stacked team.

They're 2 of the top 3 passing big men in the NBA off the top of my head(Brad Miller would be in the mix, I don't know how he did in Chicago as a passer though), and they both have the ability to make the mid-range J at a very consistent rate. This allows them to play at the high post very often, which adds even more to their value. I don't know how often Boston uses the play, but the Spurs use Duncan at the high post very frequently, and will continue to do so as he ages.

I don't really see any other big man that has the capability of combining top-tier defense, top-tier passing, great post scoring, top-tier rebounding, AND great leadership all into one. Howard gets the edge at this point because he's more dominant, but I don't really see any other big men surpassing either of them next year, barring the same injuries.

Dirk is a great scorer, but he does nothing else at anywhere near the same level as either of them. Bosh and Stoudemire have serious flaws on the defensive side, passing, and leadership(particularly Stoudemire). Al Jefferson is one of the worst defensive players in the NBA. Gasol is obviously incapable of playing physical basketball.

Duncan's decline this year IMO wasn't so much from injury as much as playing heavier minutes than usual the first half of the season and having it catch up to his body. He and KG have to get old sometime, I'll be sad when it happens, but I think we've seen the beginning. I think they'll still at least by top 12 players next year, but Roy, Deron, Dirk, Yao can probably pass them... someone like Roy doesn't provide the defensive impact of Duncan, but what equals it by being an epic offensive cog.. Portland was #1 this year offensively. Same with Deron... top 8 with Boozer out most of the year... impressive...

Duncan's decline was the injury, it's a fact. The "minutes" argument was made by many people before the media was aware of Duncan's injury, which is why you had people like Bill Simmons mentioning the mileage argument in articles as a possible reason for Duncan's poor play. Apparently it wasn't obvious that he looked like a completely different player all of a sudden one day, and it lasted literally the rest of the season.

It got out that he had tendonisis(not tendonitis), which is something I had never heard of, and neither did the majority of Spurs fans. I don't know a lot about it, but apparently it takes 2-3 months to heal. Sean Elliott had the same thing, and he couldn't even bend his knees, so he had to have surgery on it.

There's no actual argument against the injury factor. Duncan was a completely different player when he returned from the injury, right from the first minute he returned, and that isn't an exaggeration at all. He could barely move, and he had no physical advantage against any defender.

Before the injury, it was the best he had looked since 2005 or 2006, and that isn't a stretch. I understand the argument that he and KG will decline noticeably next year, but I don't believe so.
