CellarDoor wrote:That's three ideas. I'm in agreement with a draft order for the team/random draft, but I'll wait to announce it until we decide which way to go.
Do you guys want essentially an expansion draft with a completely open pool, or do you want teams where you keep your choice of a player from the team? In my opinion it's splitting hairs to differentiate, so I'm not overly in favor or opposed to either method.
I like the idea of each play-off team getting to keep a player and then having the draft.
I mean I have the first choice in the year of the Lebron and 3rd in 05.....meaning I could easily get Granger/Harris/Bynum to pair with him.
Then in 06 I either end up with Rondo/Roy/LMA/Gay?
Then I have 2nd in 08/09 and I can put him with Rose/Beasley?
So I could potentially end up with a Rondo/blank/Lebron/Beasley/Bynum line-up......
If we are juding in the present, people with early picks in like 1999, 2001 etc are going to get boned
IMO its much harder to fill a team around superstars, than it is to fill a team of superstars.......

CellarDoor wrote:I misread your post initially Maverick/Hydro/KGB. I'm cool with either method. If someone has the first pick and want's Brandon Roy (I'm looking at you, CD-blazer), then so be it.
First pick in what?
anyways.
I say put all 16 participants names in a hat, pull them out 1 at a time. The 1st person picked gets to pick their team 1st, the next person gets to pick out of the 29 teams left over etc.....
Atleast 16 teams in the league have a player you can rebuild around. I know if I ended up with DET or ATL, you would have to choose Rip and Joe Johnson over the likes of Roy, Bosh, Amare, etc?
Open up all 32 teams and let the participants decide..........
It's not like we are retaining any of the role-players our anything, so why does it matter if they are play-off teams or not?

Re: Twist Draft Discussion (Draft Order Up)
Crazy thought, but I think taking certain guys off the board would be best for a game like this.
Unless your team is godly at drafting(or gets Kobe,Garnett and Rondo thrown onto your lap) the team with Lebron wins, because most fans just see Lebron, with a decent supporting cast and scream "Lebron in 3".
I understand the judging will be different, but it's so difficult when one team starts with Lebron, and the other guy gets stuck with building his team around Chris bosh, who is great in his own right, but just doesn't quite measure up.

I trust the people that are judging.
Thats the part I like about it, is realism. Not everyone is going to start with a Kobe or Lebron.
But it's not like having Kobe or Lebron will win you a championship if you aren't smart with your other picks.
Maybe find a way to put it that the first 5 teams/players picked have a lesser chance at the 1st overall picks......

Re: Twist Draft Discussion (Draft Order Up)
Sounds good so have we come to a conclusion? If so Cellar should make post the order in which we choose our teams and we can start choosing the players we want to protect.
BTW Do I just sub in my name with tclg's, I'm 12 on the draft order?

Round 1 - Random (any year)

Round 5 - etc..
this is good.

Isn't this the same as choosing a protected player in essence???

Then you have players being picked that not many people know about. Maybe make Round round 1992-1996 so we can squeeze in players like Kidd, Shaq, Iverson, Hill, Dice, etc......

Re: Twist Draft Discussion (Draft Order Up)
Wait are we picking players in their primes or now? Like T-Mac now vs. T-Mac in his 03 season...

Nah, but players like Shaq, Kidd, Iverson can all still be useful. That is why I suggest to have a draft of 1992-1996 as the 1st round......
Might as well get majority of the better players in the league in the draft.......

Fair point I wouldn't mind that, when is Cellar putting up the order in which we can choose teams/players to protect? The sooner the order is up the sooner we can gameplan.

Re: Twist Draft Discussion (Draft Order Up)
All players drafted before 1997 are eligible to be drafted in that round.
It looks like Mascot's idea wins out. I'm sort of in agreement with Vintage, but it becomes difficult because: where do you draw the line? Kobe? Wade? Duncan?

I vote we just leave it, if you get Lebron then your at an advantage and the rest of us have to draft smarter, its fine. Also I agree where is the line, if Paul included in that group? KG?

Re: Twist Draft Discussion (Draft Order Up)
1. LeBron James
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Dwayne Wade
4. Dwight Howard
5. Chris Paul
6. Tim Duncan
7. Kevin Garnett
8. Dirk Nowitzki
9. Yao Ming
10. Deron Williams
11. Pau Gasol
12. Carmelo Anthony
13. Amare Stoudemire
14. Chris Bosh
15. Chauncey Billups
just a rough guess at how it would go. All Cellar has to do is make sure that whoever has the 1-3 picks in the Random draft do not have 1-3 in 2003 draft and then its fair lol.

So those are the 15 players we have to choose from?
Travesty to have Amare, Bosh, Billups, Anthony, Williams on that list and not Roy.
So someone please explain on exactly what we are doing.......
