Goodbye Ray (a trade idea)

Thoughts? I think we need to give up a pick, too.

If you're too lazy to click here it is:

C's trade:
Ray Allen
Brian Scalabrine or Powe resigned
(both guys' deals will expire after next season)
Future 2nd Round Pick

Nets trade:
Vince Carter
Bobby Simmons
Josh Boone (he hates getting no minutes behind a rookie)

Why would the Nets accept it?

I doubt Ainge explores trade options for Ray Allen. If we can get a good deal for him, I'll be happy to do it now than I would have before - he's becoming a shooter and we need someone with a little more offensive diversity than that at the two.

For us to take carter˙s contract back NJ would have to throw in a first round pick or two. And obviously Ray would have to be bought out and return to the C`s...

the thing about Ray Allen trades is that alot of teams are going to want his expiring deal. the fact that he is still able to average 20ppg is gravy. but i dont think some people realize maybe we just want to let Ray's deal expire... Rondo is going to see quite a payday once his rookie deal runs out.

NJ wants to move Carter badly to clear space in 2010. He is guaranteed through 2011. There is not a long line of teams wanting to take Carter and give back value and expiring deals in return. I might trade Ray for Carter if the Nets threw in a kid (preferably Anderson) or a 2010 no. 1 pick (say the higher of the Nets pick or the 2010 Dallas pick they possess, with top 7 protection).

But probably I hold on to Ray.

Let's say Rondo makes $9 million starting in 2010. You need the other contracts to start dropping. If you still have a contract that is even close to what Allen currently makes, there's no way management would be able to afford it. Either Allen AND Rondo get traded for somebody very good or you get expirings(which goes against the purpose of trading Allen) or there is no trade.

The jump from Ray to Vince is too much of a lateral move to justify adding the contract years. Either we'd need to get someone who's definitely better or someone younger and at a similar skill level. I'd say maybe Jason Richardson, but I don't know if I'd move Ray for him+filler.

I never understand people's love for Vince Carter. What has he ever done? Nothing !!

When the going gets tough you can count on Wince Carter not being a factor. Easily one of the most overrated players in the league, right up there with Mike Bibby & Tracy McGrady.

Stupid trade.

That's probably the best we could do though. VC had a GREAT season this year.

Interestingly, he's never really been on a talented team either. I do not count Skip Bayless' "superior big 3" coupled with the worst frontcourt in the NBA as a talented team.

It'd be good in some ways. I wouldn't immediately write the trade off like most deals that are posted here. But, one thing that sticks out in my mind is Tony Allen dropping 30 on Vince this preseason. If he plays defense like that, we'd be getting worse as a team. Another thing to consider is as he gets older, will Vince be able to contribute as much as Ray or Paul? Out of the 3 his game depends most upon athleticism.

I can't see Vince coming in here, and taking the back seat on the Paul Pierce & Kevin Garnett show..I just can't see it. At least not to perfection as Ray has done. His defense isn't that much better than Ray's either..Ray is older, better(IMO), more clutch, better team player and just fits the system alot better. LIke many have said, yeah if they drop this on Danny's desk he probably considers it for a while...but if you look at it real close, this is not good for us. I don't think so.

The depth that Simmons and Boone add is a real bonus, too.

CT: Perkins/ Boone/
PF: Garnett/ Davis/ Powe
SF: Pierce/ Simmons/ Walker
SG: Carter/ Allen/ Giddens
PG: Rondo/ House/ Pruitt

MLE - Sheed
and they can bring back Marbury or try for AI for the minimum.

Why Vince Carter? We already have Rondo who's the most overrated player (which is nonsense) according to Tony Parker. Why acquire a player who actually is overrated. I would like to think Ainge could do better than Carter if he were to trade Ray.

Nope, we'll have Rondo on low money for awhile.

He'll expire as Pierce and Perkins does. Ray expires a year before them. Only Bill Walker,KG and Giddens have contracts schedualed for re-signing Rondo time.

And KG will be the only big money on the table with a not too franchise player's 21 million.

Pretty much when Rondo's contract expires it will be at the time of the end of this epoch in Celtic lore.

The object is to win. Ray Allen is a better player than VC, and besides, he and PP couldn't coexist. RayRay is a good fit for Boston.

At least give me a trade for something that would entice me. VC?
