Yi on the block

Post#1 » by Inc » Sun May 17, 2009 11:47 pm

Any interest at all in him?
I mean, i think he would fit in well, because he can shoot, pass, and a little help defense.

Plus he can help Maloofs make some dough

Basketball-wise, he's nothing more than a 15 minutes off the bench big....marketing wise he could be JUST WHAT THE MALOOFS need. He could really up revenue in merchandise and marketing...I wouldn't give up more than this year's #31 for him.

Nets supposedly want an expiring that can help them. That sounds like B-Jax to me, especially if we get Rubio.

Bobby isn't expiring. His contract is up.

We can one-up an expiring. Give them instant cap relief...maybe get a future pick for doing so as well.

Uhh...the first rule of marketing is that you need to have a viable market for your product. I don't see Yi as a marketing draw. I can't imagine too many long-time Kings fans clamoring to buy Yi merchandise...he's not good enough to be a key part of the team and most Kings fans will know this. If you're banking on the Chinese market, I would say that you're putting your money in a bad bank. Let's face it, the kid is no Yao. I'm sorry, but Yi as a marketing asset is just poor judgment IMO.

Yi will draw a lot more viewers from our huge Asian population here and of course China viwers wiill tune in..
Kid almost got voted in as starter for the AS game.. He WILL make the Kings more money.

If the kid was such a money maker, the Nets would not be looking to dump him for cheep.

Kenny Thomas for Yi?

I think the Nets thought he could be a future star talent in the league and now are reconsidering? I've seen Yi play well against us, but that's not saying a whole lot.

I seriously think that is THE ONLY way I would go for him, other than Kenny or Beno, I want no part of that...

I'd give the kid a chance, but wouldn't break the bank for him.

Like ICMTM said, if they'd take Thomas for him, why not? It's not like were really going to lose anything, he may end up being a good player for us.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

We will have to weigh who trade Thomas for after the draft. We could gamble and try to trade him for an impact role player like Chandler. I don't know if an offensive role player is really anything we don't have Donte already. We will have to wait until the draft for the smoke to clear.

I'm not PRO (or Anti) Yi. I'm just saying that the investment to get him would be low, and I'm not expecting him to be in the starting 5.

I think GS might make a run for him. They were interested in him before he was picked by the Bucks, and there is a huge market for asian stars in oakland/san francisco...

Yi is expiring, he has a team option for next year, as do all 3rd year players picked in '07 first round

Return to Sacramento Kings
