Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Carlson is being overused by Gaston. He is going to wear down pretty quickly at the rate he is going. Hopefully Ryan can come back strong so that Cito can trust someone else to handle late game situations when Carlson and/or Downs are not available. Frasor should really be given more responsibility in the pen. He has developed a new pitch and has been lights out this season.

I went to two of the games this weekend and the only negative thing I can say about anything this weekend is..why is the roof always closed! Seriously, it was a beautiful day today yet I'm forced to sit inside?
Anyway, nice to see the Jays step on the throat of a team, in Toronto we usually don't see too many teams do that.

I like Jesse Carlson, though I do agree he is being over-used. My biggest problem with the Thome at-bat is that he threw him way too good of a pitch at 0-2 (or was it 1-2). 0-2 pitches, unless a guy has electric stuff, should barely even be touchable i.e., a slider 8" off the plate or a fastball that's at the shoulders. Brian Tallet got rocked on 0-2 counts in his only blow-out loss doing the same thing.

A very good bounce-back game for Richmond... 7 IP for 5 hits and no runs? Excellent. No-decision, but whatever, it was a great game. I believe that is now 11 consecutive games without an RBI for Wells, but it was a great win and it's good to see Richmond roundly defying Mustard_Tiger for at least a little longer.

I don't want to bash his performance, because I hear it was great (I missed all of it), but the Chi Sox offense is in a terrible state right now. Even Robert Ray was able to hold them to 0 ER in 8 IP.
In addition, their only good left-handed hitter (the type of hitter that Richmond struggles horribly against) was Jim Thome. Their other lefties consisted of Getz, Podsednik, and AJ. It was really the type of lineup that Richmond should thrive against, and to his credit, he did.
Believe me, I would love to be wrong about the guy and have a really effective pitcher on our hands for the next few years. But his peripherals and track record indicate that he isn't that type of pitcher.

Yeah...I'm also not understanding Frasor's use right now. He's been the bullpen's most effective pitcher this season...

Throw my name into the mix on Frasor. Camp and League have both topped him in IP, despite the fact that both are always teetering on the edge of disaster. Meanwhile, Frasor's splitter seems to have a dual effect...hitters are chopping it into the ground, but they're also popping his fastball straight up in the air half the time. Don't know whether that's an aberration, or whether the scouting report has planted splitter in their minds, but I'd start running him out there in high-leverage situations until we find out.

**** your asterisk.

Always an interesting page...check out his infield fly rate. He obviously won't keep that up, but he's a bit of a changed pitcher this season. Better control and a relatively effective changeup.

Perhaps pessimism should be put aside in favor of guarded optimism? It's true that he struggles against lefties, surely, but let's see him pitch more games. This was a fantastic game from him.

Re: Series Thread: Jays vs. White Sox | May 15-18
I have been really unimpressed with League. When I saw his stuff last year, I thought he could be a great pitcher, but he just doesn't have any control right now. He can't throw the sinker for a strike a lot of the time, and the changeup and slider don't really follow the same trajectory every time he throws them.
