Overlooked MVP candidate...

Of course there is alot of talk on who is going to be the MVP this year. Lebron, Kobe or Wade and all have very strong points on why they deserve to be. I personally believe Lebron will win the MVP this year, but one person who has not been mentioned and in my opinion has been overlooked, is Billups. I have always thought he was a pretty good PG but never really thought of him as MVP material. This year I have a whole new outlook on him. Its hard to ignore facts. When he was with Detroit they were a dominating team with a championship run. One he was traded Detroit fell hard. barely limped into the playoffs only to get crushed by the Cavs. Traded to the Nuggets who were at best an average team in the west. With the improvement of their PG and most important riddance of Iverson. Nuggets win their first division title in three years. And are one of the top two teams in the west, and arguably the Nuggets best team ever. Will most likely end up in the Western Conference Final with a showdown most likely being the Lakers. Could most definitely
give them a scare, if not pull up the upset as well. I know this is a long shot for Billups to win the award. But in my opinion this is what being an MVP means to me. Not just filling up the stat lines like the media loves...

Yeah I think he shouldn't be just an afterthought. Not saying he should be winning it this year, Lebron has all but got that taken care of. But the amount of difference that Chauncey has brought to this team his been phenomenal. Comparing this team with Chauncey, to last year's team with AI, is like night and day.

But as per expected the only people you really hear about in the race this year are Kobe, Bron, Wade with a splash of Dwight and a dash of CP3

It's really an injustice, while Williams and Paul had better statistical seasons, he's being robbed, in the spirit of winning, he deserves second team.

5 - CHRIS PAUL??

Billups wasnt even in the top 5. He deserved it more than Paul!

only one trophy really matters. the rest are all rather dumb. who really cares what some sports writers thing anyways? half of them don't see a quarter of the games anyways.

As a Piston fan, Chauncey's run has been so bittersweet:

He was always my favorite Piston. Every year I complained about how under-rated he was, much like you guys are. He manages the game better than any point guard in the game. I bet if you compiled the win-loss record of starting point guards, he'd come off near at the top. I thought he really made Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince offensively, they haven't been the same since he's been gone. So since I like Chauncey so much I've been pulling for him to succeed.

That was the sweet part. The bitter part is that he could still be a Piston and it kills me to see him in another uniform. The Pistons had to make wholesale changes, but they traded the wrong part. Rasheed Wallace, Hamilton, Prince all should have gone before Chauncey. Yes we get the cap room, but the situation in Detroit is so unattractive to the big free agents that I don't think we'll land one. It's not like Chauncey even had a bad contract, I think it's of decent value.

If Billups can maintain 27pts, 10 assists and 4 rebs and Denver winning 55 games next year.
He should be close. But I expect LBJ to win it next year.

Chauncey will never actually win MVP, because it's a stat driven award...and Chauncey doesn't play for stats. But as far as pure value goes, you'd be hard pressed to find many who mean more than he does.

You called it. Generally the MVP goes to someone on the All NBA 1st Team, not the third.

And to correct the OP, you were division CO-CHAMPIONS. Remember the three-team tie at 54 wins??

Nevertheless, Billups is a great player with the heart of a champion, and I will be rooting for the Nuggets in the WCF

This season was only a two way tie at 54 wins in the northwest between Blazers and Nuggets. Nuggets held the tiebreaker so they finish ahead of the Blazers, thus they are the division champions.

No such thing as division CO-CHAMPIONS, we won the division. Period.

We won the head to head against those teams so we won the division. Thats why we are the number 2 seed!
