Only compared to the Cavs'. Cleveland doesn't have a Gasol, but they're a lot deeper and stacked at every position and physically and mentally tougher. Kobe has an awesome if soft frontcourt backing him up but absolute dogcrap perimeter help. Fisher/Farmer/Brown, Vujacic, and Ariza/Walton... that's trash.

Yeah it is amazing how Kobe fans put down Gasol when it is Gasol who led the team in win shares in the season and playoffs.

Scola didnt outplay Gasol for the whole series...it was just panic and blame when he did out play him, and it was very quiet when Gasol was having his way.

Gasol was either outplayed or fairly negated by Scola in Games 1, 3, 5 and 6.

Heres the thing though. Gasol is supposed to be the one of the greatest PF's in the league. (According to some people around here).. The other guy is freaking Luis Scola, a 2nd year player. Explain to me how Gasol, an All-Star, was almost negated in 4 of the 7 games by Luis Scola?

Gasol has more win shares. But the calculation is biased towards big men.

Gasol has his weaknesses but even JVG who doesnt seem like much a fan of his, agrees that hes probably the best 2nd option in the league......maybe u guys got a bit spoiled with Kobe as a 2nd option, hes not on his level or Pippen but hes better than most current #2s.

Where does it say that? In the playoff advanced section Kobe 2.2 WS, Gasol 2.1 WS.

No, he said "and playoffs".

Look at his quote.

bynum and gasol should each have averaged 20/12 AT THE LEAST once yao went down. if i played in a pickup game against someone 5'9", my team would always win.

Well, the Denver Nuggets supporting cast looks pretty good. If your star player is Melo, this his supporting cast is JR Smith, Billups, and Nene.

We all know the Cavs supporting cast brings it defensively every night and Mo is a great complementary player. On paper, definitely not as talented as the rest. But the cohesiveness and gritt of this group i undeniable.

Orlando's supporting cast is Hedo, Rashard, and Courtney Lee.

Is the Lakers' supporting drastically better than these supporting casts? I wouldn't say so, no.

Lol @ the idea of Kobe not showing up. Please stop depending on box scores for your analysis.

in fact, kobe took great shots in game 7 outside of that super deep bizaro three at the end of the first half. several of his misses drew so much attention that the bigs litterally walked down the lane to recover the miss and put it back in. He fed the post beatifully, controlled the tempo, played great d, and didn't force anything. Notice that Kobe was a plus 19 or so despite not playing a ton of minutes and just coasting through garbage time.

Silver Bullet wrote:I keep hearing about how Kobe's supporting cast is so good, it would be insane if they don't win a title. I however don't see how they can win the title, when they have the softest players in the league from 3 to 11 (I didn't include Fisher).
Paul Gasol
Lamar Odom
Vujacic
Ariza
Walton

Which of these players would you be comfortable with taking a game winning bucket ?
Now I know Gasol is an all star, but so is Chris Bosh and the guy deserves to be an all star if the award were for the first 3 and a half quarters. But in the last 4-5 minutes of a close game, I'd rather have Jarron or Jason Collins over Bosh (at least they'd play some defense).

Ask yourself this, if it comes down to making a big bucket, who would you trust more: Mo Williams or Gasol, Boobie Gibson or Ariza.

If it comes down to grabbing a big rebound, who'd you rather have, Varejao or Gasol ?

If you needed a big stop and both Kobe and Lebron has fouled out? who would you trust more, the Lakers or the Cavs.

In every single case, I find myself picking the Cavs - even though I know, the general consensus is that Cavs have a much weaker supporting cast. I see it the other way. The Cavaliers have hard nosed tough guys, who can battle it out, whereas the Lakers supporting cast plays like a bunch of sissies when things get rough.

This is official Hateraide! The only person we call soft on the team is Gasol & that's only when he doesn't show up. Point blank period the Cavs are too Lebron dependent! The Lakers can strike from many ways & if these 22 teams meet in the finals you keep forgetting the Cavs have no inside presence whatsoever. Gasol & Bynum will dominate!
