Power Rankings Thread

Post#1 » by ghuytro » Mon Apr 27, 2009 3:49 pm

New batch of power rankings starting to trickle out - I'll try to keep this thread updated.

#1 on FoxSports (April 26)

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/powerRankings

1. Blue Jays 14-6
Stunningly leading the league in runs. If this keeps up, maybe Roy Halladay stays.

American media always thinking the star players on our pro teams are always just itching to bolt from Toronto as soon as any opportunity presents itself.

Wow - did anyone see this one from Fanhouse.com (last week):

Posted Apr 22, 2009 12:00PM By Will Brinson

10. Blue Jays | Previous Week: 20
The Blue Jays have scored in double digits three times already and have one of the best statistical offenses in the bigs. That didn't happen last year until May 29. Aaron Hill is 13-for-28 in his six-game hitting streak. -- EP (Ed. Note -- You asked for it Canada! Top 10 ranking for your Jays. Enjoy it while it lasts.)

even though we have the best record, i think the #1 spot has gotta go to the red sox. 10 games in a row looks to me like they are putting it together now.

I think he's saying that because the power ranking was updated on the 22nd and now we're first in all of MLB.

#4 on SI.com, updated on the 23rd

4 Toronto Blue Jays
Last Week: 5

Toronto Blue Jays
Home plate umpire Kerwin Danley suffered a frightening moment Tuesday night in Toronto when the barrel of Ranger Hank Blalock's bat snapped off and hit him in the facemask. Danley had a brief hospital stay and appears to be fine. He can thank his hockey-style mask for protecting him, and for that, he should probably thank former Jays catcher Charlie O'Brien, who pioneered the look during his 15-year career.

I think you're making a generalization here. Halladay himself says he wants to play for a competitive team. His career is winding down. Although he says he wants to stay with the Jays if they show that they are committed to winning, I'm anticipating he will sign with another team if this turnaround doesn't last.

I wouldn't blame him if he left either. He has put 100% into this team and has nothing to show for it, other than a good start this season. He deserves to play for a winner even if it's not with the Jays.

#1 on Yahoo Sports!!!!

1. Toronto Blue Jays (23-14; Previous: 2) – In first 34 games, Jays played three in AL East – all at home against the Orioles. In college football, that’s known as “service academy month.”

ESPN has the Jays in 4th place, with the Red Sox in 1st. The best are the comments though. Jays Nation is on a rampage. Where is the online place to go where Jays Nation resides? Or are those comments just from RealGMers?

Back up to #2. Lots of hype going around for Halladay lately. I was watching the Sports Reporters on ESPN yesterday, and Mike Lupica (NY Daily News) was talking about the Mets. He wanted to talk about Johan Santana and said, "The Mets, who have in Santana the best pitcher in the majors not named Roy Halladay,...." So just a casual mention to any American fans out there who the best pitcher in baseball is.

BTW, is there a compilation of links to various power rankings?

They might mean the ESPN forums. There's no moderation there, so it gets out of control.

1. Toronto Blue Jays: 4.33 (2nd)

I would love if someone could put together a Power Rankings thread each week.

Toronto Star
ESPN
Yahoo
Sports Illustrated
RealGM
MLB
Fox Sports

Plus whatever else they can find. I know we have a few already but they are all over the place and I would like to get them organized in one post and one thread each week.
