Jim Gaffigan is sooooo funny.

Anyone familiar with Neil Hamburger? I found out about him like a month ago and was amazed. He kind of has this gimmick where his character is the worst standup comedian of all-time, so he's constantly clearing his throat, or bombing jokes, or sobbing after telling jokes about his ex-wife... he's like a streaky shooter though, because when he gets on a roll it's hilarious.

Here he is on Kimmel, this was my introduction to his humor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5NOt3ClPKA

He was on some Foxnews show called RedEye a few times, those clips are pretty good. He tells a joke about Applebee's and then one about Paris Hilton that are just brutal.

And thaaaaaat's my life!

Dex, let's be friends. I've just been playing hoops at my house lately, but we can figure something out. I get together a lot of my friends and we play pickup hoops a lot. I don't have a dog though, Millbrook exchange is probably a good place for that though.

I haven't seen Last House, but I did look for it on demand after you mentioned it. If I see it on sometime I'll give it a view. I'm glad to read that you liked Wolverine. He was my favorite superhero for a long time, so I'll have to see it eventually.

Awesome. I got my friend moving here to which is really good because now that I have lost all this weight n got in shape my wife doesnt let me hang out with the friends I did make here because they are all girls.
Im a halfcourt type of guy. What level are you at bball wise. Im hoping your not insanely better then me because that might not be to fun for ya although if we played with several people I wouldn't embarass you, I did make my h.s. team and am a smart player. Im kind of like a 6'1 180 less talented vesion of a Luke Walton with a much better hook although I love to bang.

i saw last house in the 1.50 theater so it's not on demand yet.

You guys are no fun, his delivery is awesome. The Bush joke was funny, the John Denver joke was brutal, but watching that clip again, the jokes aren't his best... although the joke that is Neil Hamburger is at it's best (that combover, holding 4 drinks (+ dropping one), the throat clearing/joke telling cadence/punchline inflection)... it kills me. He's a modern day Tony Clifton.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLYD2Jz2 ... re=related

^That's the one I saw where I thought he was funny outside of his gimmick. I think he's at his best as a tv guest/host. His clips with Tom Green and hosting poolside chats are entertaining. Still though, I was rofling at Marilyn Quincy Adams.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D37jzYOC ... re=related

There's the most recent, I was wrong when I said he jokes on applebee's, it's TGIFridays (around 3:30). There are funnier standup comedians, but I don't think anyone is doing the framed comedy funnier than NH, right now. Whatevs though, I didn't know my credibility was going to be on the line for sharing. :(

I don't know if you checked out my post in "get to know your fellow bobcat fans take 2", but I was in a car accident when I was 3 that left me paralyzed, so it's hard to quantify my bball level. I played wheelchair hoops from age 8 until the end of my Junior year of HS and was drawing interest from scouts from Illinois and Oklahoma State before I stopped playing. Since then I hadn't played competitively until last fall. I was really rusty and unconditioned, but it's been a while since and I'm getting my skills back. I can hold my own on offense in pickup games against able-bodied players, but I'm a liability defensively since I try not to get TOO CLOSE to my mark since I don't want to hurt anyone. Still, I'm a talented passer and I'm getting my range back. In wheelchair hoops I'm a tenacious defender, good rebounder for my size, but traditionally I'm a streaky shooter so I have a tendency to over distribute, but I've been putting in lots of reps on my shot b/c the team I'm playing for needs me to be able to score (last season we were very Bobcatsesque--fantastic defensively with a tendency to go in LONG scoring droughts).

The pickup group has some talented players and some guys that just play for fun, so I'm sure you'd be fine.

So you are in a wheel chair and can play with able bodies players? I got to take my hat off to you. I find that incridble. That is probably one of the most impressive things I have ever heard in my life. Can't wait to hoop.

well you know, comedies are all about personal tastes... for the most part. i mean, it wasnt the funniest movie ever, but it was certainly entertaining. definitely in the category as recent movies: 40 year old virgin, wedding crashers, superbad and knocked up, imo.

seann william scott is usually good in everything and paul rudd is awesome. and jane lynch... her character is a riot. plus it features dudes in kiss makeup, which is always a plus.

No one sets picks like Walt.

Like he says, it's tough to play defense, but it works offensively. He's nothing compared to me, a 5'4" guy who can't dribble with his left hand and is only semi-automatic within 4 feet.

In other news, I saw the new Star Trek recently, and I thought it was just phenomenal. Funny, exciting, dramatic, and it sets up more movies (which are already in the works, thankfully). Actually I kind of hope they make a new TV series out of it, but I guess that might be unlikely.

On the videogame front, I am about halfway through Resistance 2, which is fun if you liked the first, but is probably overrated. It's basically the same game as one produced several years ago, which was rated highly mostly because it was the first good exclusive game for PS3. Also I played the new Tenchu game for Wii, which again, you might like if you liked the old ones, but there's not much to recommend if you did not. It's much better than the rest of the sequels to the original PS1 game, and if you like sneaking up and killing people as a ninja, this might be a game you enjoy. The sword-fighting is now horrible though.

That little kid in it is a freaking riot. He reminds me of the evil baby in the Simpsons - an adult playing a baby. The kids timing and delivery in Role Models is spot on and his facial expressions hilarious.

I watched Pineapple Express a couple of months ago and was really excited to see it but very dissapointed when I did.

still havent called to get my xbox fixed (can you say procrastinate?). so now i am playing my ps2. i am playing persona 3 fes right now. fun game. i dont usually care much for the traditional japanese rgs, but this one is pretty neat.

ok time to vent about time warner cable... maybe you guys can give me some suggestions.

for the past year i have been having trouble with very inconsistent download speeds on my internet. i have had the same set-up for 3 years, so nothing has changed on my end.

my set-up: line comes from wall, goes to splitter, splitter sends one line to tv and one line to modem. modem goes to router, router plugs directly into desktop and also sends signal to house for 2 laptops.

about a year ago i noticed i was getting some days where my download speeds were just awful. i started monitoring my speeds using TWCs speed test. on my bad days my speeds were around 2mbps. on my good days my speeds were around 4mbps. according my TWC my cap is supposed to be 7mpbs (which rarely come near). last summer i called someone from TWC to come out and look at my connection. he was convinced that my problem was a result of using the splitter. he said using a splitter creates little wiggle room between the incoming signal being too high or too low which could result in very inconsistent speeds. of course, i am aware that using a splitter will prevent me from getting the best connection possible, however, i have had a splitter in that room since day one and i never had any problems until a year ago. i always had speeds between 4-5mbps. what changed? for the past year i have been dealing withe these massive variations in my download speeds, thinking the problem was my splitter (which realistically, i cant do much about w/out a massive re-wiring of the entire house).

about 2 months ago, they started getting worse. i was started to get days where my speeds were around 1mbps and good days over 5mbps. 1mbpst is just AWFUL. thats like going back to 1997. you cant watch streaming vids, you cant watching online sports, you cant play games, you cant download anything larger than a song w/out leaving the computer alone for an hours. the fluctuations are huge from day to day and even during the day, slowest being late at night, when i can rarely get speeds above 2mbps.

so, last week i tried bypassing my splitter and plugging the net directly into the wall. i did this for a few days and it didnt make a difference. i also tried bypassing my router and that didnt make a difference. my laptop is brand new and has 4gb of ram and i am getting the same speeds on my laptop and my desktop, so i know the problem is not related to a virus, firewall, spyware etc...

i called TWC back last week (my speeds were flucuating between 2.5 and 4.0 that day). the first lady told me my speeds are no where near where they should be and passed me on the the top level tech guy, who then proceeds to tell me everything looks fine, blah blah blah. of course, at that moment my speeds were 4mbps (which is fine). but an hour later i was back down to 1.5. (last night i was around 1.) anyway, he suggested i take my modem back and get a new one from the TWC office. i'm sure he thought i was full of crap. ugh....

so today i took my modem back and got a new one. its sitting in my car. i'll plug it up tonight, but i am about 95% positive that it wont make any difference. i'll monitor the speeds for a week or so and then call them back if it doesnt improve.

what else should i try? replacing ethernet cable? replace coax cable? replacing router? replacing splitter? (even though i bypassed both the router and splitter last week and it didnt make a difference).

what other options are out there? DSL, from what i read, maxes out around 3mbps, which isnt worth switching from TWC. clearwire maxes out at like 2.5mpbs. no thanks.

any computer/networking brains out there?

I had the same sort of problem, and getting a new modem did fix the problem.

I don't see why you would have to rewire the entire house to add another cable connection. They did it themselves when they installed my cable modem. Now, I have two wires, one going to my TV and one going to my modem. I thought it was going to be a problem, but they basically just drilled a hole in the ground along the wall and did all the wiring themselves underneath the house. I don't know what type of housing setup you have, though.

the problem with adding a new line is... i live in a townhouse and its on a concrete slab. for them to add a new line to that room they have to go into the back of the house, up two floors, thru the attic, and back thru 2 floors (since they cant go around or under the house)... at least thats how it was explained to me. :( my other option is to get the extra cable outlet in the upstairs loft turned on and move my desktop and router up there. i would totally do that, IF, i was 100% convinced the problem was with the splitter. it just seems that if it was the splitter that it should have improved when i plugged directly into the wall.

anyway, you give me hope ham. i hope its the modem. [fingers crossed]

Fats, you've just described one of the many reasons I hate TWC. I have had the same problem with them for years concerning their both their TV and online service. Not only that but when I was recieving TV from them as well CBS (especially during football games) and a few other HD channels would often break up and not even be viewable due to the feed. I didn't have a splitter or anything but no one could fix it. I moved on to DirecTV when they launched their 100+ HD channels and haven't looked back since.

As far as your online problems go this is what happened to me. I had tech after tech come out and all they ever wanted to do was change the modem. I was so fed up with my online speeds because they fluctuated constantly and I had been paying for the premium service. I wasn't even getting consistent speeds for the standard service. I finally raised enough hell and got a tech guy to come out who knew what he was doing and he told me the internet service comes through on it's on channel which operates at a different frequency than the TV signals do. I'm guessing this is why it's best to have a dedicated line, although I already had the modem on it's on line. Anyway, it's been so long I don't quite remember how he adjusted it but he said I was getting too much signal and that was what was effecting my speeds (i assume you'd have the same problem if you had a low frequency but enough to get a signal on the modem). He was right though because my speeds went from varying between 1-3 to 7-10 right there in front of my eyes. My upload is much more consistent now as well and usually never drops below 400. Of course this will all vary during the time of day your doing your tests and the load in your area but I've got to say that guy at least made me happy for now with my online situation even though there is virtually no other option for any of us to choose from if you want high speeds.

its too early to get excited, but the early returns of the new modem are positive. i begged the guy who came out in august to give me a new modem, but that dude was a moron. anyway, i hooked up the new modem and got 5mbps on my desktop (thats fine w/ me). then i went in the other room and did the test on my new laptop and got 11, yes, 11mbps. wow. thats what i'm talkin' about. my speeds remained constant on the desktop for the rest of the night. i hope i'm not just having one of those good days. i'll lose my mind if the speeds dip back in the 1s or 2s this week. while i know having a splitter isnt ideal, i can live with speeds in the 5 range. thats all i'm asking for... which isnt a lot since thats what i'm paying for. so keep your fingers crossed... or else you might see me on the news "local man holds TWC tech hostage until internet speeds are resolved"
