The young teams get better, we have to find ways to keep up.
We really have to focus on making moves and acquiring players the hard way. We need to give a talented GM as much freedom as possible and let them do their thing. Our younger competitors keep getting better and the ball continues to fall in their court. Thunder have the number 3 and can land a possible franchise center, the Grizz got a shot at Rubio who is a possible franchise PG. We all know the Blazers are beast and they got lucky with Oden. We are one of the few young teams in the west who hasn't had the ball bounce our way. I tihnk it's going to take a complete commitment from out front office to get better. I really hope we do the right thing and get the right guy in here and soon. It's time to get serious.

Shouldn't we have been serious since 2006?

That's precisely why everyone is so bummed - cause so far our FO has shown us it can't consistently make decent decisions - i must add that over the last 2-3 years they have made a marked improvement in this regard. However - without a fully functional F/O we are in treacherous seas without a rudder... when we should be building relationships and foundations for making deals now that the draft order has resolved itself...
I for one have very little faith in the Wolves F/O and its operating procedures/strategies going forward...

yea we should have but we weren't so it's time to now. Seriously, if I was Glen Taylor I would be like "Enough is enough." They I would pay out of my butt to get who I felt was the best possible candidate and let the do whatever the hell they wanted. We have to make our own luck. I'm tired of us seeing every other young team catch breaks over us. Can't rely on the lottery anymore, that's also why I don't believe in massive tanking.

Next summer might be Taylor's "enough is enough" when we have cap space...
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

I like how everyone has made this out to be the worse thing to ever happen to the Wolves franchise, I mean seriouslly guys, we dropped ONE spot in a draft that still has plenty of players who would come in and help us right now.
Add to that the fact that we were missing our franchise for half the season last year and still maaged to improve in the wins total.
Lets not start cutting our wrists all ready. Rubio looks great sure, but who knows, in 5 years time Jeff Teauge (just a name out of the hat, don't read into it) could turn out to be the best point guard of the lot. Perhaps in a year or two Griffin has a burnt out knee and Blair is averaging 18/10 and is an all-star.
Sure its a bummer right now, bu there is still plenty of things we can do to improve. Hell, even without the#6 pick we would still improve by just getting back Jefferson.

"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

I'm not cutting my wrist, I'm not even all that upset but the fact remains that young teams are getting better. We have to keep pace with these teams if we expect to contend. The wolves have to do a better job of building up a competitive team than we have been doing. We are beginning to lag too far behind.

So, here its hoping that the 6th overall pick turns out to be Larry Bird!

Re: The young teams get better, we have to find ways to keep up.
I am not as upset about dropping a spot in the draft as i am at Memphis and OKC being the teams that moved up. We are in direct competition with them, and they are potentially moving ahead of us at a faster rate.
Which is why i think this thread was made, we arent getting any help from lady luck. So we have to stop dicking around the front office situation, get a head honcho in there and start blazing the phone lines. Anything not name Jefferson is up for sale, and hell, if you have a legit proposal, we might even listen to it.
Stop being complacent, stop thinking this thing is eventually gonna patch itself up and start making moves. You arent only losing games, you are losing money and you are losing the fans confidence. I swear, do you really not see that we are a running gag in this league? The only time we are ever mentioned is negatively. Apparently Glen is ok with this. If not, get up off your ass and do something about it.

Re: The young teams get better, we have to find ways to keep up.
We gotta be looking at trades....and risky ones. Could Hinrich come in hear and be the PG we are looking for? Should we trade Jefferson or Love (Personally, I think Love is a better talent at PF while Jefferson plays like a Center, but in a PF body). One of them should go. We need to work on getting the best starting 5 we can.
Do well sell off everything. We have enough expirings and other assets to pick up both Hinrich and Dalembert and then perhaps sign Marvin Williams; but all these guys have (or will have) large contracts, with quesetionable production, but some good potential.
Big decisons need to be made... now.

Re: The young teams get better, we have to find ways to keep up.
I'd Give Love and Jefferson at least two more years before we consider trading them. If Love can get his shot going and he can play like a Brad Miller on roids, then we have a good 1-2 combo with Love-Big Al.
I'd probably look to find a guard who can create his own shot in the draft(CMON HARDEN), and get Hinrich to man up on the PG slot with Foye backing him up as a Jason Terry type player.
Draft Mullens as a future C prospect with our 18.
Get one of the remaining Point guards with the Boston pick.
I can see this team making the playoffs if all the players reach their potential.
Hinrich/Foye(Scoring guard off the bench to get a spark)/(PG from draft)
Harden/Miller(i'm all for Miller being here unless he goes to CHI for Kirk)
Brewer(He can be our Dahntay Jones or Trevor Ariza)/Gomes
Love/Smith(Brings a different dynamic to the 4 spot for us)
Jefferson(Obvious #1 option on offense)/Mullens(Athletic center who comes in for energy ala Ryan Hollins)

This post scares the hell out of me. This the wrong mentality. We have to be patient one more year.
Then we will have raw cap space in 2010 (very valuable) and our own first pick, likely top 5 next year (very, very valuable).
Dalembert? You've got to be kidding.

I think this is the mentality that lead to the utter failure known as the Wolves in the late KG years.

I blame McHale's tendency to overpay average players (Joe Smith, Marko Jaric, Mike James, Troy Hudson etc). I don't want this becoming a what if thread, but we are nearly free of all the bad contracts that weighed us down all these years. Every time he must have thought missing piece of the puzzle right here.

There's not exactly any Paul Pierce's on the Wolves either.
