The order of things

Post#1 » by Hemingway » Tue May 19, 2009 5:33 pm

Ok so the playoffs are over. For us anyways and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that my interest in playoff basketball has dropped dramaticly now that we are out. So what's next? The off season! Now that we are out, the floodgates have opened. Now you can post any idea without responses saying, "why worry about that now, we are still in it." So i figured if we want to assess the offseason, we might as well do it in the most efficient manner. There are a lot of decisions to be made and a number of different periods to do things in the offseason. Lets discuss the order that decisions need to be made in.

So what do we need to decide this offseason? Do we resign Rondo now or wait? Is there a risk of losing him? Do we feel he is worth the Max? Does House stay? Do we resign Marbury? Does it take our LLE or part of the MLE to do so or can we just give him a raise on what we have already paid him? How much are we willing to spend on Baby? What feel do we have on the avalibility to replace him through free agency and at what cost? Moore is a goner right? Who do we or more importantly who does Danny like in the draft? What teams might trade of sell a pick? What can the MLE get us and what positions do we favor spending it on? Can Tony and Scal net us anything in a trade? Under what conditions would we trade Ray or any other star? What could they get us? What players might be willing to sign for the min here? Who do we keep our eyes on as potential mid season pickups?

Now these questions are all off the top of my head in roughly the order I think the team will look at them. I know there are a few people on here who have a much better grasp on the order of things and how the front office works. It is my hope that this thread can be a help to the board. Hopefully a better understanding of the order of things can prevent faulty thought processes that make threads with faulty premises.

Sound to me like they want to re-tool and make another run at the championship with Paul, KG and Ray. What Danny would look to do is upgrade the role players. Tony and Scal won't net us anything in a trade by themselves they would have to be parts of a trade that would involved Ray Allen. That being said I don't think they will trade Ray Allen. I feel the top player on their list is free agents to sign is Antonio McDyess he's a much better fit then M. Moore. I'm not sure if they will bring back Glen Davis, I think they will let him walk if they know they have a guy like McDyess in the fold. The Cs need to get bigger and longer in the front court they also need to add some speed and quickness in the front court.

Not bad, not bad. I like Barnes as a possible backup 3. Not so sure about Gooden and K. Brown; maybe there is a way to bring Camby here, who although older is a better fit for our defense.

My current line of thinking is that backup SF and adding a Front Court player with length are the top two priorities.

Marbury + Davis + FA Big + FA Swing is simply too pricey an offseason. The front office simply won't go for that.

I believe Danny is going to stick with Rondo, House, Pruitt at the PG spot while prioritizing the SF and PF-C additions.

Then Danny will possibly look to bring in that veteran PG mid-season if needed.
