Bobcats War Room- Pick 12 for 2009

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Wed May 20, 2009 1:57 pm

Talk about timing. We get confirmation that we officially have the 12 pick... then we do the 12th pick here. Irony. Well, all of you who have been thinking we were incapable of selecting a point guard (whether to trade or keep remains a big question!) got your answer in Brandon Jennings. That PG has to represent excellent value. And he is at 11 as opposed to 5.

As currently slated, 12 is where we will pick on draft night, barring a trade up, or down, or to next year! :-? So with 11 names off the board, review carefully and lets put someone in the 12 spot we really want to look at for the next 10 years or so. :)

So August, shut up and let the people vote, how about it? Results Thursday. Bring us our guy!

GranMama 2- DeJuan Blair.

Size of Larry Johnson. Made Pittsburgh look something like UNLV. SOLD! to me anyway. :o :o

Explanation was given in pick 11.

I would love to see DeRozan or Tyreke Evans fall to us, but dont think that will happen. I think they are the only ones with "Star Potential" who conceivably might fall to #12. With both of them off the table, I would go with Henderson. Kid seems cut from the same mold as Raja Bell. He plays very good defense, and has the ability to fill up the net on many nights. Not a bad player to be left with if it works out this way.

Henderson. This is a total consolation prize for me, I am not thrilled about him at all, but I don't see anyone else that's going to take this squad to the promised land. I think this is exactly the kind of pick that people talk about that never helps mediocre teams like us get out of the lottery.

I will say twill and henderson is starting to grow on me so he would be ok in my book right now seeing what we need.

I'm sort of with you guys, at this point, considering who's off the board, I'm thinking about switching my picks from players with the highest ceiling to players with the highest floor and guys that can help us out the most right away. For me it's a toss up between Blair and Henderson. I think Blair would make great backup to Diaw with his rebounding and aggressiveness, and he might be a reach at 12 but I think he'll be a very solid, productive player in the NBA. Also I like what I've read about Henderson, I've honestly never seen the guy play but from what I understand he seems like a great defender with a high BBIQ, a good team player and has a decent mid-range game. I'll take that, at least as backup to Bell for the the time being.

Hey guys, we are doing a mock draft in the Draft Forum.

If one of you wants to come over and make a pick for the Cats we would appreciate it.
It's currently the Bucks pick at #10. Hopefully you guys will be picking soon.

Thanks in advance for your input,
Gopher

edit - the Cats are on the clock!!!

I voted for Jonny Flynn, will probably be the only guy to do so. Yes we have point guard depth already but of all the guys in that poll only Flynn strikes me as a foundation type player. I have not seen a guard with his mastery in the lane since, well Chris Paul and honestly I think Flynn is better at that than Paul was. I'm a firm believer that you take the best player available and I sincerely think that Flynn is the 3rd best in this draft behind Rubio and Griffin, respectively. I've been a Bobcat's fan since day one and I've never been too thrilled with their picks. Honestly, if Flynn isn't available by the 12th pick I hope we trade it to get rid of Nazr's contract and keep the 2 2nd rounders.

Welcome in, Bro Dave! One thing I have found about the War Room. Today's minority EASILY becomes tomorrow's majority. Great to have your input. And let's try to get that post count off of 1 as soon as possible!!!! :D

With just a few minutes left, looks like we're gonna be takin the Dooooookie! Can we nickname him Chewbacca? Please  As time expires, we will move to # 13.

For me it was between Henderson, Blair and Buddinger. Blair is a beast, and has the kind of bruising rebounding we need down low. He has a leader's personality, and does remind me of LJ!! I do think parts of his game will translate at the NBA level (rebounding, toughness and scoring down low). My issues are his lack of leaping ability, undersized at 6-7 in shoes (although with the massive wingspan), his ability to get up and down the court in the NBA transition game, poor shooting range and FT %. If we have a deal to trade Wallace or Diaw for a star 2, I go Blair. Since that won't likely happen (if we do trade I think it will be for a PF), then the shooting guards are our best picks.

Henderson won out due to his overall athleticism and defensive capabilities. GH can also fill up the baasket when he's hot. Hopefully LB can help him refine his offensive game and remove some bad habits that throw his shot off. Henderson was a big time performer for Duke, but had trouble carrying them at times. I think he can improve on that. All-star? Not likely, but he has a good chance to replace Bell as our starting 2.

Don't overlook Buds. He is coming on and will get a lot of looks during the workouts. I like his size, shooting skills and ability to get to the hoop. I do not like his defense and lack of good lateral quickness. When faced with 2 players close in skill level, I always defer to atheticism and defense. Henderson wins on both counts.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

welcome to the board brother dave.

there is this part of me that really wants blair. i voted for henderson here, but i will be voting for blair next pick. we have never had a tough minded, bruiser, rebounding machine type player at pf.

Which has been a glaring weakness of the team. If he were only 6-10!!!
