Celtics Rumor: Kevin Garnett Would Have Played Against Cleve

Yeah, Comcast Sports Net New England's Gary Tanguay isn't exactly known for being one of the most original or ground-breaking media members in Beantown, but he did drop an interesting note Tuesday night regarding injured Kevin Garnett and his availability if the Boston Celtics had advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals vs. Cleveland.
During the late edition of their Sports Tonight broadcast, Tanguay told co-host Michael Felger that he heard from sources that Garnett would have played against the Cavaliers if the Celtics had defeated the Magic in Sunday's Game 7.
Obviously, Tanguay's got some inside connections (CSN is the official broadcast partner of the team and he is the studio host for the broadcasts) and by leading off with this, he puts himself out there in case it's not true.
But it does raise some questions if it is true:
- Just how bad is this knee anyway? KG is due to have surgery next week, but there sure is a Tom Brady-esque feeling of silence around the situation, eh?
- Assuming the above is true, if he could have played in Game 1, why didn't he play in Game 7 against Orlando?
- Was GM Danny Ainge simply smoke-screening all this time? I guess the answer to this is obvious, but if Garnett had returned, it would have interesting to hear what he would have to say after he so vehemently denied Garnett would play in the postseason.
- What's the benefit of breaking this info now? I don't see much of a benefit to be gained for everyone and actually, I see more negatives that could come out of it.
- How much could we have expected out of him? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? Celtics fans would probably say a 60% Garnett is better than no Garnett, but would he have been able to make any sizable impact?
There isn't anything buzzing much yet on the interwebs about this, but I suspect we will hear more in the week ahead. It does twist the knife a bit to realize we could have been that close to an emotional Garnett comeback, but in the end, the Celtics got throttled in Game 7 and the Magic moved on.
Damn it.

I'm glad KG didn't play because I don't want us to lose with KG playing 15-20 minutes.

Re: Celtics Rumor: Kevin Garnett Would Have Played Against Cleve
Until the point he had surgery, there was always a slight chance KG could play the next game or series. But there is a big difference between limping onto the court, and being effective.
There is no way to prove that KG would have played in a future game/series, this will die a quick death. Tanguay is like the rest of us in that there is very little to discuss about the Celtics at this point, however he has to find something to say otherwise he's off the air.
I hate these un-named sources things, because frankly if the "source" was anyone of note, they would have been quoted. Chances are Tanguay heard from an assistant towel washer who heard from the chief toilet cleaner that he heard from a ballboy that KG was taking free throws, hence the liklihood he would play in the Cleveland series.

LOL!
Far too much dramma!
IFFFFF this were the 70's or the 80's and he was making Leon Powe type money, Garnett would have been playing right along....
And they wouldn't be calling him KG!

Re: Celtics Rumor: Kevin Garnett Would Have Played Against Cleve
Not buying it. The Celtics did not play like a team at the end of game six and in game seven that thought they'd be getting their best player back next series. Not saying we tanked, I'm just saying it didn't seem like we cared as much because we didn't have as much of a chance next series.

Personally I was expecting him back more than I was expecting him not to come back. Although I think that I didn't think we would beat orlando so I didn't think it would come up. Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to win so bad, but I didn't have a good gut feeling about it. As a side note, my gut feeling was right last year and so far has been right on series this year. For what its worth Cavs over Lakers in 6

Doc said he wouldn't have played. I don't believe this at all. If he could have played 2 days after, than he could have played in that game 7. This is bull...

Re: Celtics Rumor: Kevin Garnett Would Have Played Against Cleve
I dont think KG would have played against Cavs, if he could in any way help the team he would have played in game 7 vs Magic.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?
Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.
Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

Re: Celtics Rumor: Kevin Garnett Would Have Played Against Cleve
WOW. I knew it! As soon as I saw KG was going under the knife, I was like that's is just like the C's, they are like the Pats as far as their misinformation. Those sneaky buggers! Forget about it KG is done for the season they said, I I never believed them. I always thought KG would be back before the end of the playoffs and it was going to be close. Looks like it might have been.
I was actually rooting for the C's, cuz Team LBJ was cruising without competition and it was pissing me off. Plus I wanted our great rematch in the Finals. Great season C's, I really admired your run. Can someone please have Doc shower at halftime of these playoff games, never seen a coach sweat like that. It looks so uncomfortable, lol.

LoL
Sure he would of....
In fact he's not injured at all!!!!
I bet this is another play of Reggie Miller's hotshot talk.
I just hope KG is fine for next season.

If he came back for game 7 and we lost he would look stupid and so would we. I think the team said to him, Wait until after the second Round and we will reassess the situation than. I think that once they went to reassess KG would have just raged until they agreed to let him back.

Aaahhh, Doctor Tanguay strikes again. Yee of the "bone on bone" controversy. This guy's only source is his butthole when he occasionally removes his head from it.

Re: Celtics Rumor: Kevin Garnett Would Have Played Against Cleve
The idea that he would not play Game 7 but would have played in Game 1 of the next series is frankly some ignorant ****.
Max was on the radio talking about this prior to Game 7. He said it had been too long that there was no way KG could have given the team enough to be worth his minutes just on wind alone, he is player whose game is built on athleticism and speed and has done no conditioning in what 2 months. The reason he can't just play through the injury is that he can't jump the knee will not allow him to it will not respond, how can you play basketball.
It sounds like the surgery is for bone spurs, not the tendon injury that sat him out, which from what I heard from the guy on Simmons show that is a good thing and that means the injury is healing. The surgery for the tendon injury sucks, it involves two screws in the back of his knee and kind of sounded like the kind of thing that meant he may not be the same player again.

Not that they didnt think they needed him, but that he wasn't ready yet and that he might be game 1.

He would NOT have played.
Who cares anyway, the C's choked hard and now we're eliminated.
