With or Without Ray...

Post#1 » by mwhis21 » Wed May 20, 2009 8:20 pm

This team will be in good shape for the next two years...

The reason I say this is simple. Rajon Rondo. Before the Chicago series he was one of the most underrated players in the league. Now we head into this off-season and we are debating whether he is a max contract player.

Rajon has improved every year in this league and there is no reason to think this won't be the case next year. If he can become a 75% shoot FT shooter and continues to develope his shot he will essentially replace Allen as one of the BIG THREE options on this team. That doesn't mean he will be taking the last shot with the game on the line, but he will be a proven number three option. The only thing that can stop Rondo from an 18-6-8 stat line next year is Rajon Rondo.

Which is why I think the key to this off-season is to deepen the bench. Whether that means trading Ray Allen for some immediate help/depth or keeping him and looking at other avenues. The player that I covet the most is Raja Bell. I think he is absolutely perfect for the Celtics. He can bury the three, guard the SG and SF position, and bring veteran experience to a unit that lacked a real leader. I also advocate bring Marbury back, if he agrees, at the right price. I would also look at Drew Gooden to replace the Miki Moore/Patrick O'Bryant disaster.

I am definately glad I am not Danny Ainge, but here is hoping he finds away to bring Raja Bell here from Charlotte.

Davis and Giddens for Raja Bell and a 2nd?

Would we do that? Would they do that?

I probably would do that. Don't think they would though. Maybe we could get Diaw to back up Paul?

Diaw would be a great addition as well.

I don't really know where Charlotte is headed and if they see either of these guys as focal points in their organization.

I just think with a slightly improved Rondo, with or without Ray, this team will be fine. If we can get some solid help for the second unit.

Rondo and Ray need each other to be great. They feed off each other.

What do you expect from a third year point guard? There was little to no hype with this kid coming out of Kentucky. We aren't talking CP3/Deron Williams here. Tony Paker wasn't always a scorer, Steve Nash has comparable numbers to Rondo through his first three years. It took those two PG's almost 5 years to develope a scoring repetoire that other teams had to respect.

He is just scratching the surface of how good he can be and at 23 years old. He carried the Celtics to Game 7 against the Magic. PP and Ray had their moments in the playoffs, but Rondo completely carried the team for two playoff series. It was way to much to ask Rondo to win two series in a row by himself. With that he did this with absolutely not lost post scoring threats. Imagine how easy Rondo would have go to the hole if KG had his man guarding him on the perimeter.

Did you read my post? We have seen Rondo continually get better, gain more confidence each of his first three years, where is there evidence to suggest he won't next year? If we deepen the bench this will be a dangerous team with or without Ray.

Triple doubles and under age 25.
You don't understand what your watching with Rondo.
