Why the hell does everyone think Sac sucks?

I've already seen reports of 2 top potential picks saying they would want to play here(Rubio and Jennings), and then I see in the draft forum someone says would Jennings demand a trade or stay in Europe if picked by the Kings and then in the Grizzlies forum another person questioning why Rubio would want to go to Sacramento over OKC and Memphis? Seriously? We are the capital of the best state in the country, we aren't nearly as small as people think(we have the 23rd largest city/area in the US!!!!!), we are right between SF and Lake Tahoe, we have good weather, the best fans in the NBA, and it's freaking California. I don't get it. Just because Snaq O'meal called us a cow town? That's ridiculous. People act like Sac is only a small town city with like 100k people, when the general area around Sac has over 20 times that!!!! Seriously, I DON'T GET IT.

BMiller, I LOVE Sacramento. But right now, California overall sucks. It's in shambles, and it's mostly due to political policies since the last semi-good governor(Pete Wilson). Both Grey Davis and Arnold have EFFED up the State royally and Gov. Brown started the effing process before Wilson.

With that said, it is actually the 16th largest media market and the climate is GORGEOUS.

Yeah politically CA sucks, but we are the 7th largest economy in the world AS A STATE and like you said, the 16th largest media market in the US. I mean seriously it just seems like these people saying this stuff know nothing about Sac and just take what Snaq said as truth, when they've never been here. It's a great city. It's because we have to compete with other well-known California cities like San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, and of course, Los Angeles. California is just too stacked with awesome cities that it's easy to forget a place like Sacramento, even as large as we are.

I'm sorry, but Sacramento is utterly horrible when compared to LA, NY, Chi, Mia, etc.

Now, if you are choosing between Sac and Minn, Mem, Mil, of course Sac is better.

However, typically when fan's say Sac sucks, its talking about the elite free agents such as Lebron. There isn't a chance in hell that any major FA comes to Sac....but Mem, Minn, Mil, OKC, Tor and about 15 other cities all don't have a shot either.

I think it has to do with our current record and playing facilities.

I've been to Mia, NY, & LA and really Midtown isn't a close 2nd, but not everyone likes things on a BIG scale like that. Portland is a NICE city. Phoenix is a NICE city. Why don't we strive to be more like them instead of LA?

I've been to Memphis. I have family in Ms (Oxford) and you fly into Memphis. I've been there enough times to never want to stay there long time. I've been to OKC, too. I like OKC, but I was 17 and didn't really experience it. One thing that LA, and more so Sacramento has that none of these cities has is diversity. For a kid who hasn't shown a big willingness until recently to leave home going to OKC or Memphis is culture shock. I think the teams mentioned were because of draft position and not because of Rubio's wishlist so most of these cities listed (Toronto included) are irrelevant.

Hey now, being a Canadian you should know better than to dis Minneapolis. We hear lots of complaints but then when people actually come to MN they love it. KG, Randy Moss and Johan Santana - none of those guys wanted to leave. Lots of parks, lakes, trees, clean, great uptown/downtown area, safe, high quality schools and of course great people. We're all above average don'tcha know!

CWebb said hell no and still came after his dad said to make the most of it. These guys just get bad advise from greedy parents. Jennings is not a great decision maker there is no way Petrie drafts him. Jason Williams was the same way bad decision maker he got booted from college twice and as soon as Petrie saw how mentally weak he traded him for Bibby. No way he makes that mistake with Jennings who only had to make it through 1 year of college to get drafted and couldn't survive 1 year overseas. There are just so many mentally strong guys like Holiday, Curry, Teague, Evans and Rubio who are not knuckleheads. Scratch Jennings off the want list.

I didn't necessarily mean Tor is on the same level as a Mil., but even as you said, players don't want to go to Canada if they have a choice not to.

Portland/Houston/Denver/many more all have better chances to sign a big name FA than Toronto does.


And all the talk about "players don't want to leave" is completely irrelevant. It doesn't matter if a player wants to leave or not, but simply players don't want to give those cities/teams a chance in the first place. The perception of Sacramento is horrible. The perception of Toroto just isn't appealing. The perception of Sac is bad simply because there is nothing there. We have no sports to improve the appeal, our weather isn't great. There are no major landmarks, there are no major attractions, there is absolutely "nothing" in Sacramento at all. Does that mean its a horrible place to live? Absolutely not. But for a person who has never been to Sacramento is told choose between Sac or NY. Sac or Chi. Sac or LA. Sac or Miami. Compared to all those choices, Sac has absolutely no shot in hell.

The weather isn't great? What place has great weather then? I mean obviously, it depends on what one's tastes are, but it seems to me that Sac's weather is outdone only by LA's--but again, that's based off of preference.

I think our weather is fine, when compared to other "average" cities...but we just don't really have any major attractions or landmarks. Besides, like others said, its tough to compete against towns such as SF, LA, San Diego, etc...
