I'd rather just draft Rubio at #4. He's trying to get here fellas, and he holds a LOT of leverage.

Just wondering. I see a bunch of Bulls stuff, and some ideas coming from way left field, and I become a little suspicious. To me it looks like trolling.

Don't worry about trolling...we got it ;)

The sig on the other hand....it needs work :) More purple! I need to start making more of those things.

Anyhow as much as I'm not big on Martin I think he's good enough to trade for a legit player. I would trade him for Devin Harris, but other than that...I don't know. I don't think Harris is even available or the Nets would like the above trade.

You do make great sigs.

Ehh...I don't know about that. Not wanting to play somewhere didn't affect Yi a couple years ago, and he had a government behind him. I just wouldn't get my hopes up about that.

Yi wasn't in a huge contract with a Chinese team at the time, though. Rubio's buyout is much much larger.

Is Rubio committed to the draft already? Or could he simply pull out completely and declare in 2010.

I think he's committed to the draft, but he could pull a Vasquez if he didn't like his situation. So like, Memphis would still have his rights, but they could trade them in the right circumstances.

Hm? I heard Rubio can still pull out the draft completely since he's under contract with his team in Spain. Doesn't he have until like June 15th to decide? I know college players who don't hire an agent can pull out before the draft, but how does it work for international players?

So, regardless of the situation, whoever drafts him would have his rights for 4 years + QO?

Rubio is 18 now? and has what 3 more years on his contract?

If he REAALLLLYYY hates Memphis, and dosen't come over until his Euro deal is up, he'd be 21 and only 1 TO and QO away from being a free agent? I dunno. It'll be interesting to see how things turn out.

Yeah, bare in mind that I'm not completely sure about any of this, and am probably not a great source of information. This is just kind of my understanding of the situation.

The rumor starts to grow...

I am continuing to hear confirmation of the news - first reported by DraftExpress - that Ricky Rubio has no interest in playing for Memphis or Oklahoma, the teams that will draft at Nos. 2 and 3, and that his agent, Dan Fegan, is trying to position the Spanish point guard in Los Angeles (1) or Sacramento (4). This could get very interesting. While there have been numerous examples of players discouraging teams from drafting them or forcing trades (Kobe Bryant, John Elway, Kiki Vandeweghe and Eli Manning, among others), Rubio has unusual leverage because he has to buy out the final two years of his contract with DKV Joventut before he can play in the league. The NBA team wanting to draft him can only contribute $500,000 toward the buyout, which means the youngster has to produce an amount estimated at $7-$10 millon, depending on the exchange rate.

Not that the Kings are strangers to extricating their first-round draft choices from sticky situations, by the way. The club's attorneys helped Peja Stojakovic and Hedo Turkoglu gain their releases from their respective teams in Greece and Turkey.

^^Seems mostly just like the Bee re-reporting what Draftexpress said. I'm still going to wait for something more concrete before I start to really get my hopes up.

More information...this time for Sports Illustrated!

I saw Rubio in Spain last week for an upcoming story in Sports Illustrated. During an extended interview at their home, his parents said Rubio would take his name out of the draft to avoid landing with a "bad" franchise -- one that offers a negative future to their son.

Is Memphis, which holds the No. 2 pick in the June 25 draft, one of those "bad" teams? The Grizzlies play in a small market with little support; they've slashed payroll and -- as the Rubio family knows well -- they gave away fellow Spaniard Pau Gasol in a controversial salary dump to the Lakers. (In all fairness, the dynamics of that Gasol deal are likely to be duplicated many more times this summer by other teams needing to reduce payroll. The Grizzlies merely were ahead of the curve.)

Hope is alive again in Sacramento!....I hope :D

The logical route to this is to wait for more confirmation and more tangible evidence from Rubio's club. I think as of right now, it is still in the early development of the situation IMO.

True, but after the week we've had...it's not a bad thing to have a little hope.

That's the point. Kings fans can't use "We got screwed out of the draft lotto (#4) and our season was terrible" argument to justify our perspective/mindset. I know we had a very very tough year (and obtaining the #4) but Kings fans need to stay calm and think through things much more clearly.

I'm not saying we can't hope but I think we need more information from Rubio's camp to determine this situation. Image

I'm not sure how a thread titled "Trade Martin for a PG" turned into a thread about Rubio...but since we already have other threads about Rubio (and the Martin for a PG idea is not being discussed), I'm locking this one.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.
