2009 the year of injuries(Eastern conference)!

Post#1 » by klemen4 » Fri May 22, 2009 12:20 pm

I cant remember the last NBA season when there were so many injured players as this year. It is clear that injuries dictated the final season standings and also playoffs.

So lets look the teams:
! Starters+key bench players that missed more than 10% of the games(8 games)

1.Cleveland: Ilgauskas(16), West(17) / Wallace(26)
2. Boston: KG (25) / Powe(12)
3. Orlando: Nelson(30), Pietrus(18)
4. Atlanta: Smith(13),Horford(15), Willims(21)
5. Miami: Marion(10) / J.Jones(42)
6. Philladelphia: Brand(53)
7. Chicago: Deng(33), Hinrich(31)
8. Detroit: Hamilton(15), Wallace(16), Iverson(25)
-----------------------------------------------------
9. Indiana: Granger(15), Dunleavy(64), Ford(8), Murphy(9), Daniels(28)
10. Charlotte: Wallace(11), Augustin(10), Bell(15)
11. New Jersey: Harris(13), Yi(21), Simmons(11)
12. Milwaukee:Redd(49), Bogut(46), Ridnour(10)
13. Toronto: !Oneil(14), Calderon(14)
14. New York: Robinson(8),Richardson(10), Gallinari(54), Jeffries(26)
15. Washington: Arenas(80), Haywood(76), Butler(15), Stevenson (50)

Miami was the only team without a major injury to starters (Marion 10 games) and key bench players. All the top 4 teams had a lot of injuries, also Philly, Chicago and Detroit would do better if healthy.
From non playoff teams Washington and Milwaukee lead the way by far. If healthy both would be close to making playoffs. Also Indiana with Dunleavy out and all the close game loses could have a lot better season.

Shouldn't Scal and Tony be on that list?

And..yeah..you hate to see injuries interfere with the outcome of a season. Too bad. Hopefully it doesn't happen next year...
