History of the #6

Post#1 » by revprodeji » Wed May 20, 2009 8:37 pm

Everyone says this draft is the strongest or weakest and we have no idea until three years later. That being said, historically here is who the #6 will get you. Not who is available, but who has been picked.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-draft-h ... 57&spick=6

Wishful thinking names...

--Gallinari
--Yi JianLian
--Roy
--Webster
--Childress
--Wagner
--Kaman
--Battier
--D.Johnson
--Wally
--Traylor
--Mercer
--4pt Walker

That is very good value. I know some (rc?) made a comparison with this year's draft and roy/foye draft. Roy was taken at 6, could Harden be the pick?

1986

6. Williams Bedford

Bedford, a 7'0" center, played for the Suns, Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs in 6 NBA seasons averaging 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in his career. Originally projected as a star player, Bedford's NBA career was a disappointment as he succumbed to drug use, never reaching his full potential. Bedford has had drug problems ever since he left the NBA. He was arrested for drug possession twice between 1996 and 1997. In 2001, Bedford was accused of transporting 25 pounds of marijuana in Michigan. After the Michigan arrest, he was arrested two more times for marijuana, and in 2003 was given a 10-year prison sentence. As of 2008, Bedford is serving time in a Fort Worth, Texas prison on drug related charges, and is scheduled for release in 2013.

This again just proves that the draft is a total crap shoot.

Holy cow on that 1985 draft. You basically could just draw a name out of the hat and get a solid player, yet for some reason #6 was garbage. :-(

Well to be fair 5, 10-12, 14-17, 19-22 aren't listed. But I hear ya, it was pretty impressive.

You look at the #13 pick this year and think there is no way he could end up being the best of the bunch. Could happen though.

Yeah, once I revisted the 1984 & 1985 drafts I knew I had a winner for this thread.
