What is the most you would match for Sessions?
Just thought I'd see what the limit would be for people if you were Hammond, in terms of Sessions RFA. Lets say he gets a 4 or 5 year deal. Assume we have the space to make it happen.
My cap would be anything $9M per year or less. I know many will say that is high, but it's slightly over what a starting PG makes per year in the league, on average, as of 2008-09.

It would scale up the fewer amount of years that he got. If he got a five year deal, I would go no higher than 6-6.5, if he got a three year deal, then I think I would go up to around 8-9 to keep him around.

<$8M for 5, with no player options
We were upset with Mo's deal and Mo has done a lot more then Sessions.
(Is this just a hypothetical question? I thought the most he could get was $6M

I doubt he gets more than six a year... I think some people here overrate what Sessions has accomplished thus far. He is a talented young player and certainly has some upside. But he was a second round pick and still hasn't really accomplished anything of value aside from putting up some solid numbers on a bad team.

I'd give him Mo's deal.

I'd like to see something along the lines of Jameer Nelson's deal.

Re: What is the most you would match for Sessions?
I'd match anything up to $9-10 million per year. I think he'll easily be worth that. I might consider going even higher but with Redd and Jefferson being highly paid and useless, it's probably not feasible to have 4 guys making near max money. If Ramon gets a deal worth more, I will be upset when they don't match but at least I'll understand. If he signs for $8 million a year somewhere and they don't match, Hammond is my most hated GM ever (passing Ernie Grunfeld and Mike Sherman).

Anything. Obviously, I think Sessions will be an All-Star point guard, so a 9 million a year deal would actually be a bargain later on.

He can only get up to a 5.8 million dollar offer for the first year of his contract, I think. So a team could make the contract scale upwards drastically after the first year. I think GAD can explain better.

Re: What is the most you would match for Sessions?
Wow, everyone around here seems to have a much higher option of Ramon than I do...
I really like the kid and when we picked him in the second round, I thought he had first round talent. Everyone here is willing to drop big money on him and they think 9 million is going to be a bargain for him? Those are some pretty high standards to live up to for a guy who hasn't even started an entire year as a point guard yet.
EDIT: I'm not saying he cannot become an all-star, I just think it is kind of crazy to give a guy a contract that will be around 50 million dollars when he just hasn't proven much. I think he's going to end up getting a 3 year/18 million dollar deal, personally.

An All-Star? In Milwaukee? I guess it is easier in the East, especially with Billups gone, he only has to beat out Harris, Rose, Rondo, Calderon, Nelson, and Mo. Depending on what happens with Philly and Atlanta.

I think All-Star might be a stretch, but I think he has the skills to be a top 10 PG.

Re: What is the most you would match for Sessions?
Let me start by emphasizing MATCH. No more stupidness like the Bucks did with Gadz, making a pre-emptive offer that was ridiculously high.
I don't see paying Sessions above average for NBA starting PGs, as he hasn't proven that he can be that guy. $7M per is a more than fair deal for Ramon.

If Sessions makes the all-star game as a PG, then he is automatically our best player, IMO.
He would make the all-star game against a crop of excellent young PGs... So if he is outplaying those guys, then IMO, he will have easily surpassed Bogut, Redd and RJ.

Re: What is the most you would match for Sessions?
i love sessions, but no way would i want him on a deal longer than 3 years right now. he has shown us that he CAN BE good, but he hasn't proven that he IS good, at least not consistantly. i don't think this franchise can endure another overpaid player. i'd prefer to offer him a 2-yr, $15 millionish offer so he can prove himself and cash in on the next contract (plus with redd-jefferson-gadz expiring, we'd have the room to resign him if we chose to). if a team offered him a 5-yr $40 million deal, i'd let him walk. if a team offered him a 5-yr $30 million deal, i'd most likely reluctantly accept. if he ends up not being great, $6 million+ per year is too much for a backup point guard for the bucks.

Re: What is the most you would match for Sessions?
We're paying Luke Ridnour 6.5 million to be a backup point guard. If Ridnour deserves 6.5 million a year, then Sessions deserves at least 8 million, IMO.

Re: What is the most you would match for Sessions?
Some of these numbers are insane. $9-10 mil? Crazy. $7mil is too much. So is 6 probably. Are we trying to have the most over paid team in the league? If you think Mo's contract was too much throwing $9-10mil at Sessions is ridiculous. By the way, as of now Mo's the better player.

Luke Ridnour is overpaid by about 4 million dollars per year though, he is making what Sessions should be making. Do not compound mistakes by giving players more money based off of what other players on your team are making.
Michael Redd makes, what, 17-18 million next season? Does that mean that LeBron deserves 40 since he is twice as good? No, just because one guy is overpaid, don't go insane on another guy.
Sessions is a talented young player, but he hasn't earned a big time contract... He hasn't accomplished nearly as much as Mo Williams did before he got his deal.
I like the comparison of the Jameer Nelson contract, that is about what he is worth... And I think it should be a three year deal for both Sessions benefit and our franchises. If Sessions turns out to be as good as some believe, he can get his big money then... If he turns out to just be a solid PG, we can extend him a reasonable offer.
