Well, I hear that canman but at the same time the Celtics are going to have to pry guys like Anthony Parker, McDyess, Zaza, Gortat and Rasheed away from their current teams who would probably like to get all of these guys signed to reasonable deals. So the Celtics are going to have to pay a guy like Rasheed a decent amount of money, likely the full MLE to get him to sign with them vs. resigning in Detroit or with other contending teams or teams with capspace.

So I agree that it's not really realistic to say that the Celtics will sign Rasheed AND Anthony Parker. You might be able to get Rasheed for the full MLE but Anthony Parker isn't going to choose Boston over Toronto for LLE money. That's why it's likely that if the Celtics get a Rasheed or a McDyess (who would likely be cheaper) they're going to have to either look at minimum level players or LLE guys like Bogans, McCants, Flip Murray, etc. Beyond that the Celtics do have some expiring deals that they can potentially package to swap for a "bad contract" like Nocioni.

An ideal offseason for me would be to sign Davis at around $3-3.5 million for 3 seasons. If he gets too pricey I'd trade into the first round and pick up a rookie PF like Tyler Hansborough. The type of player who's ready to play in his first year. If you're unable to do that try to get a guy like Shelden Williams on a minimum contract to replace Davis.

Then I'd go out and try to sign one of Dyess, Sheed, ZaZa or Nesterovic. Probably in that order.

Then go out and look for a cheap PG/SG/SF like Anthony Johnson, Bogans, McCants, Jarvis Hayes, Flip Murray.

I'd be very happy with resigning Davis on a reasonable deal and picking up McDyess and Bogans/Murray. And hopefully Powe is looking to get healthy at some point this next season and resign him on a minimum deal. I can live with a bench of House, Pruitt, TA, Bogans, Scals, Davis, Dyess.

They have 3 positions to fill, so why wouldn't you trade them?

My plan for the offseason would be nuthing too spectactualar save some money and not make this team older then it all ready is

i love the TA and scal for barbosa deal just whut celts need a true 6th man

also dont kill me for saying this but it could happen BRING BACK GERALD GREEN!!!!!! (cheap and a highflyer just whut our crowd needs seeing as we have the best fanz) gerald can learn alot from our new group especially kg who brings out the beast in evry1...

also a shot blocker for our bench gortat or swift i prefer gortat

big baby is guna want too much money let him walk

resing powe

sign mcdyess

trade pruitt and giddens for draft pick

give marbury a second chance guy hasnt played basketball in 2 years sign for cheap

sign a reserve would like mutumbo or just an extra big

throw mikki moore in the trash and we are all set

rondo/marbury/barbosa
ray/house/green
pierce/walker/draft pick
kg/powe/mcdyess
perk/gortat/mutumbo

i think like this we have plent depth for our bigs incase of foul trouble injury and fatigue which screwed us from makin the finals this year i also expect bill walker to have an amazing season

1:
Vince Carter, Sean Williams and Bobby Simmons

for

Ray Allen (expirer), Scalabrine (expirer), Tony Allen (expirer), Gabe Pruitt (expirer) and JR Giddens (expirer).

Nets save a bucketload. Celtics upgrade themselves significantly. (I'd probably just cut Williams)

2:
Sign Rasheed Wallace to the MLE.

3:
Sign Jamal Magloire or Rasho

4:
Let Glen Davis walk.

5:
-Try buy a point guard in the draft that can hit an open shot and defend a little.
-Get a veteran that can play a little D at the 2. (for the minimum, Anthony Parker, you interested?)

CT: Perkins/ Magloire or Rasho/ Williams? (I know he's a power forward)
PF: Garnett/ Wallace/ Powe
SF: Pierce/ Simmons/ Walker
SG: Carter/ House/ ?
PG: Rondo/ Marbury/ ?

I would resign Marbury. IMO after a full summer or intense conitioning/practicing and (re)perfecting his midrange jumper, he can come back and be a great option as a backup pg. In theory his game matches up very well with house's, and giving him more time with the team I think we can get someone a lot closer to the old Starbury.

I have a feeling Baby is going to leave the team this summer for more money than we are willing to give him and a starting role. I would like to keep him but I'm not sure if it will make financial sense for the owners. If Wyc is willing to pay though, matching an offer sheet for Davis makes a lot of sense talent wise. With Davis and one of the big-man FA's below, we can maintain a championship-caliber frontline even with an injury to one of our big men.

Priorities for free agents:
Be prepared to throw the full MLE at:
R. Wallace
McDyess
Gortat
I'd be willing to throw the full MLE at all three at the same time, and say whoever takes it first gets it. This game is played a fair amount with college coaches and scholarships, but not much in the NBA. If you can sign one of these three, then we can remain a championship-caliber team even if one of our big men gets injured. However, if we sign one of these guys, there are very few options to fill in the backup SF role. We don't have many pieces to trade for someone very good, nor the cash for a mid-major FA. At that point the best option is probably Grant Hill, given that Barnes/Ariza or any younger player will not take the LLE at this point in their careers.

Rondo/Marbury
Allen/House/Tony
Pierce/Hill/Tony
Garnett/X/Davis
Perking/X/Davis
X being one of the big men above

If none of these three take the offer, then offer the full MLE to Marion if he has not yet signed with someone. I hate everything about this guy. His attitude, his incessant complaining about not being a featured option in Phoenix, even when he was receiving as many/more shots than better players like Nash and Amare. But, his talent is there, and he could play as an even better version of Posey, playing the 3/4 for 28-32 minutes. This would be huge, allowing us to move Pierce to the 2 when Marion's in at SF, which was an option nobody on or bench allowed us this year. It would cut down huge amounts on the minutes of the big 3. However, this option isn't likely to happen given Marion's ego being too big to come off the bench for a great team. Should this be the siging that happens, I would offer the lle to Jamal Magloire for him to come off the bench for 10-15 mins/game behind Perk.

Rondo/Marbury
Allen/House/Tony
Pierce/Marion/Tony
Garnett/Marion/Davis
Perkins/Magloire/Davis

If none of the above options work, I would offer up to the MLE for a player like Barnes or Ariza, and follow a similar plan to the one for signing Marion. Ainge is going to need to be able to move on quickly if one FA says no, because all of these guys will probably be swallowed up pretty quickly.

As state in previous posts, an alternative to resigning Marbury is a trade for Barbosa involving some or all of Pruitt/Tony/Scal and a draft pick. This can also clear a roster spot for more room to maneuver should a mid-season transaction become necessary. The key to this offseason is going to be making sure that a lot of options are open, and quickly moving to a new option when one opportunity disappears.
