While Jackson hasn't resorted to throwing Bynum completely under the bus in the media, he also made it clear that Bynum has to adapt on the fly or he won't get minutes since winning games is all that matters this time of year.

An obvious conclusion some have made is that Bynum isn't yet healthy. Bynum confirmed that fact on Saturday.

"I feel okay," Bynum said quietly. "My knee is probably 85-90 percent. The only part that's tough is not knowing when I'm going to get called upon because you get tight and you get stiff."

Despite lingering hip and groin stiffness so painful he could barely walk after the game, Ariza's closeout speed posed enough of a threat that Kenyon Martin led teammate Carmelo Anthony too far with his looping inbound pass in the front court. Ariza chased down the loose ball and sank two free throws, giving the Lakers a four-point lead that they preserved to escape with a 103-97 road win and a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Ariza originally hurt his right hip and groin crashing to the floor on a second-half driving layup attempt in Game 2 on Thursday night. He reaggravated it in the third quarter Saturday, going back to the locker room for treatment before returning to start the fourth quarter, score eight of his 16 points and put his stamp on the series for the second time in three games.

"It was kind of déjà vu of Game 1," Anthony said. "Trevor's so long and so fast and played the passing lane on it. He made a great play."

Magic Can't Afford to Keep Turkoglu
The Orlando Magic don't like talking about it now. They don't even like to think it. And rightfully so, in their first conference finals appearance in 13 years, only three victories away from the NBA Finals. But there is a dark cloud looming quietly over their playoff run in 2009. And It's not just LeBron James. Orlando's future isn't quite as bright as you might think. The Magic's go-to guy will be long gone in two months. Hedo Turkoglu could be wearing a Detroit Pistons jersey next season. Turkoglu has decided to exercise his option in June to become an unrestricted free agent in July, opening himself to the highest bidder. And that probably won't be the Magic. Turkoglu has proven throughout the last two season -- and certainly in this playoff run -- that he deserves to be paid handsomely by NBA standards, which the Magic can't do and still stay under the luxury tax limit that terrorizes all the small market teams. Dwight Howard is the foundation of the franchise. Rashard Lewis will be the highest paid. Those are givens. But still, it's Turkoglu consistently with the ball in his hands down the stretch of every big game. The coach trusts him more.

It was Turkoglu who should have been the hero in Game 2 against Cleveland Friday night when he hit that potential game-winning shot with :01 remaining. Only a miracle -- named James -- took that away. It was Turkoglu who dominated Game 7 of the Boston series with 25 points and 12 assists. It was Turkoglu who saved the day and won Game 4 of the Philadelphia series with a game-winning 3-pointer with :01.1 remaining. And it was Turkoglu who had 15 points and a career playoff high of 14 assists in the Game 1 victory in Cleveland. "Turk really makes it happen for them,'' admitted Cleveland center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. And he should be paid for that responsibility, even if it means playing in Detroit, or Portland or Memphis next season. That is where the big money will be spent.Turkoglu will be opting out of a contract that would have paid him $7.3 million next season. Because they already will be paying Lewis and Howard $20.5 and $16.5 million, respectively, next season, there is no room to give Turkoglu much of a raise.Bad planning, but it's the economics of the NBA, which often get in the way of building good basketball teams. The business model really only allows for two superstar salaries, and Turkoglu is the third wheel in the economic game."Rosters change all the time.

It's hard for rosters to be stable with the salary cap and all,'' said Magic coach Stan Van Gundy. "It's why you can't take any of this for granted. You have to play every year for what it is.''Turkoglu, 30, has settled comfortable into Orlando through the last five years, but he also knows this will be his last chance at a real, big-money contract. He is coming off the best two seasons of his career, and his value will never be higher. The Magic are unlikely to offer anything more than a four-year deal worth an estimated $30 million. Yet there are several teams in the league desperate to find a go-to guy, and one of them will offer considerably more. The Trail Blazers have talked about waiving Channing Fry to make room for a Turkoglu contract. The Pistons are weighing the option as Joe Dumars continues his reconstruction process. The Grizzlies and the Thunder could find the salary cap room. "It's something I won't think about until after the season is over,'' Turkoglu said recently.Without him, the Magic clearly would regress. For all his quirks, Turkoglu is a rarity as a 6-10 playmaker who can handle the ball, seeing over the shorter small forwards. He creates shots for himself and for others. He has led the Magic in fourth-quarter scoring for the last two seasons. His cool hand in tight situations would be tough to duplicate. It's something the Magic don't like thinking about now.

LeBron James Survives News Anchor Jinx
Here's the closing moments of NewsChannel5's 11 PM newscast in Cleveland on Friday night, which occurred just moments before LeBron James shocked the world with his buzzer-beater for the win. As if the odds weren't stacked against James enough, little did he know that anchor Leon Bibb was not only trying to jinx the game but the entire series. "That's the way it goes sometimes," said Bibb. "As Dad said, we'll get 'em next year."

Yeah, or something like that. Please turn in your fan card on the way out, Leon; you're being booted from the bandwagon.

Chauncey Billups
I was at a family cook out last night, and me and my uncle were talking basketball. And begin to talk about Chauncey and how he been playing since becoming a Nuggets. True Chauncey was a great player as a Piston but if he would have played for us like he is for tha Nuggets tha Pistons could have won atleast one more title. He got over there and he's driving tha lane more, playing better D, and just overall playing better. As a Piston fan watching this disappoints me.

Post Don’t Lie
No player’s game to game performance and attitude has ever elicited so many different emotions from me as Rasheed Wallace has. Being a level headed fan of many sports, I’ve come to grasp the concept of letting things—as in player/team performance, attitude, instinct—run their course, so to say. I have vehemently vowed to never become that guy on the radio or poster on a forum that is so reactive to each game that his opinion changes about a player or team on a daily basis. I really detest those kind of reactionary “fans”, they can get walloped by Ron Artest and I wouldn’t feel bad at all. So I say that knowing that when it comes down to watching Rasheed Wallace, I’m reactive and quite frankly, a damn flip-flopper. One instant I’ll be talking up Rasheed up so nice you’d think he had won three championships in Detroit and always dominated Kevin Garnett, but then the next game I’ll be spouting off that he’s just as expendable as Malik Allen and should be on jail for stealing so much money from an organization. Of course, the true feelings of yours truly lie somewhere in the hairy middle.

Hell, when Rasheed showed up at Michael Curry’s introductory press conference prior to this season, I KNEW Rasheed would give better effort night in and night out considering he must have felt strongly toward his new coach or he wouldn’t have attended. Duped. Another telltale sign that I’m easily duped: When Sheed has a good all around game and was obviously immersed in the action and giving good effort, so, well, I always automatically assume it’s a start of a positive turning point in Sheed’s season. But just like how the other side of the pillow is always cooler, Sheed always disappoints time after time. I must be a slow learner, or just insanely optimistic, because I still expected big things out of Sheed at certain times this season, even when it was absolutely obvious Sheed was playing on one and a half legs and an empty tank. I usually persuaded myself that ‘competent and interested Sheed’ would overcome the ‘rundown and what am I doing here Sheed’. The feeling I have had about Rasheed over the last few years is akin to much of the grief I encounter when checking my favorite blogs and seeing that they haven’t posted as regularly as they should. It can be quite frustrating.

I simply expect a post within a certain time frame, but instead the blog sometimes give me nothing in return, or maybe just a half assed attempt at something that may or may not be a success. Of course sometimes it works out ok since I might peruse the web and find something worth my while elsewhere, but then again, sometimes all I want is just a post from a place I know and am comfortable with, and in all likelihood will be pleased with the result since I know what to expect. After all, obviously you spend time on the blog because you enjoy it to some degree, it can be your go to blog for a reason. So if the blog is successful at churning out good content and knows it’s good at it, then why doesn’t the blog post more often? I mean, just back the sucker down and use your skill, finesse, and length to shoot over him! All Pistons fans love Rasheed from time to time, but dammit, we would all love to love him all of the time. And maybe that’s why it’s refreshing, for me at least, to know that I will never have to witness Rasheed in a Detroit uni again. The enigma, finally, is finished in Detroit and I think it’s safe to say that most Pistons fans will say goodbye with a emphatic and surely overdue, “It was unbelievable while it lasted Sheed, but it lasted a season or two too long. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, champ.” And I’ll miss the Carlton, for sure.

Video as well in the link above^.

The physical toll of a long postseason run is starting to catch up with the Lakers.

Bryant received an I.V. after Saturday’s game and said he slept for 10 hours following the game up until five minutes before the team’s 10:30 a.m. meeting. He said he was “absolutely” the most drained he’s ever felt after a playoff game.

“[The I.V.] definitely helped,” Bryant said. “It helped put a little more fuel in the tank.”

LeBron James had no shot.

Dwight Howard scored 24 points -- 14 on free throws -- and Rafer Alston added 18 as the Orlando Magic, sick of seeing replays of James' dramatic Game 2 buzzer-beater, downed the Cleveland Cavaliers 99-89 on Sunday night to take a 2-1 lead in an Eastern Conference finals getting nastier by the minute.

James scored 41 on just 11-of-26 shooting and missed five free throws in the fourth quarter. But once again, Cleveland's superstar didn't get enough help from his teammates. Mo Williams, who needed four stitches to close two gashes around his left eye after being elbowed in the first half, Delonte West and Zydrunas Ilgauskas shot a combined 13-of-37

Howard picks up 5th technical
Orlando's Dwight Howard picked up his fifth technical foul of the playoffs in Sunday night's Game 3 win over Cleveland, tying him with Kobe Bryant for the league lead and leaving Howard just two technicals shy of a one-game suspension. Players who reach the five-T barrier in the playoffs receive a warning letter from the league office, with one-game suspensions assessed after the seventh technical and every other one thereafter (ninth, 11th, 13th, etc.). "We just kept fighting. That's what we got to do, we fight to the end," Howard said. "We can't worry about nothing, we can't worry about the calls, can't worry about nobody else. We just got to get out there and play."

Denver's Kenyon Martin has also been hit with five technicals this postseason, but three of them were rescinded by the league, putting Martin officially at two. Two of Martin's technicals in Denver's second-round series with Dallas were wiped away -- one of them when a Game 1 hit on Dirk Nowitzki was upgraded from a technical foul to a flagrant foul. Double technicals Martin and New Orleans' Chris Paul picked up in the first round were also rescinded. Bryant has actually rung up six technicals this postseason, but one of his Ts was also rescinded. After collecting No. 5 in the first game of the Western Conference finals against the Nuggets -- with potentially 13 games left in his season at that point -- Bryant vowed: "I won't get another one."

Other players besides Howard and Bryant who have to be mindful of their T count include Orlando's Hedo Turkoglu (four), Denver's Carmelo Anthony (three) and the Lakers' Lamar Odom (three). Howard was already forced to a serve a one-game suspension in the first round against Philadelphia after elbowing Sixers center Samuel Dalembert, but Orlando won Game 6 on the road without him to eliminate Philly.

Nuggets played to crowd, lost
LeBron James had no shot. Dwight Howard scored 24 points -- 14 on free throws -- and Rafer Alston 18 as the Magic, sick of seeing replays of James' dramatic Game 2 winning shot, downed the Cavaliers 99-89 on Sunday night to take a 2-1 lead in an Eastern Conference finals getting nastier by the minute. Mo Williams, who needed four stitches to close two gashes around his left eye after being elbowed in the first half, Delonte West and Zydrunas Ilgauskas shot a combined 13-of-37.

Game 4 is Tuesday night in Orlando. The first two games of the series in Cleveland were each decided by one point. This one was resolved by elbows, shoves and hard fouls. Howard, Ilgauskas and Cleveland's Anderson Varejao all fouled out as the officials called 58 personals, handed out two technicals, a flagrant and spent half the night stepping between players on both sides as tempers flared inside an overheated Amway Arena. "We just kept fighting. That's what we got to do, we fight to the end," Howard said. "We can't worry about nothing, we can't worry about the calls, can't worry about nobody else. We just got to get out there and play."

When the referees weren't making peace, they were sending players to the free-throw line. Unlike Games 1 and 2, the Magic didn't fall behind by double digits and need to rally. They got out fast, stayed close despite Howard's early foul trouble and put the Cavs away at the line. Howard, a poor foul shooter, went 14-of-19 from the line and the Magic made 39 of 51 attempts.

Cavaliers acquire Chinese partner
The Cavaliers have signed an agreement with an investment group from China to become minority owners of the NBA franchise and its arena, a partnership that could impact James' future with the team.

The Asian conglomerate, which includes JianHua Huang, a Chinese businessman who has brokered sponsorship deals with the New York Yankees and other sports franchises in the U.S., could acquire up to 15 percent of Cavaliers Operating Company, the entity that owns the team and operates Quicken Loans Arena.

The deal, completed by the sides in recent days, must be approved by the league's board of governors.

Mo Says Elbow Was Cheap Shot
During the post-game press conference after the Cavs' game 3 loss in Orlando, Mo Williams answered "Most definitely" when asked if the elbow that Anthony Johnson hit him with was a cheap shot.

Johnson drove to the rim on a play in which the referees whistled Williams for a foul. But after the contact, Johnson's elbow flared out and struck Williams in the face. Williams suffered lacerations and bruising above and below his left eye. Johnson was called for a flagrant foul.

When pressed again by reporters, Williams said, "I could care less about Anthony Johnson. He plays 12 minutes a game."

James Extends Scoring Streak
LeBron James scored 41 points, including 18 from the free throw line, in the Cavaliers' Game 3 loss at Orlando. It was James's 14th straight playoff game with at least 25 points (dating back to last year), the longest streak of its kind for any active NBA player, surpassing 13-game streaks by Kobe Bryant (20022003) and Shaquille O'Neal (20022003). The last player with a streak as long as LeBron's was Michael Jordan (14 straight 25-point playoff games from 1992 to 1993).

Williams Left Bruised and Bloodied In Game 3
Midway through the second quarter, Orlando's Anthony Johnson drove down the right side of the lane with Mo Williams hounding him tightly. A referee whistled Williams for a foul, and Johnson went into shooting motion -- a strange, unorthodox shooting motion, one that saw him violently raise his left elbow and smack Williams in the eye.

Williams hit the deck immediately and when he got up several minutes later, he had boxing gashes above and beneath his left eye. He continued to play, logging more than 41 minutes, but not without the aid of four stitches -- three to close the upper cut and one glue stitch to shut the lower one.

At the postgame press conference, Williams, looking like someone who'd been roughed up by some wise guys, didn't mince words. Asked if he thought Johnson nailed him with a cheap shot, he said, "Most definitely.''

Dwight now has five technical fouls in the post-season, on the 7th he will have to serve a one-game suspension. Dwight says he hears from his coaches and teammates about the fouls and understands he has to stay focused, saying the technical was for comments made to the Cavs bench, not the Officials.

Cavalier's guard Mo Williams held nothing back saying he felt the flagrant foul from Anthony Johnson was deliberate and a cheap shot, saying this was not the first time he's gotten extra contact while falling out of bounds.

Pistons' draft board gets a little smaller
You can probably cross off one candidate for one of the Pistons' three second-round draft picks. The Orlando Sentinel reported that Florida sophomore point guard Nick Calathes agreed to terms Friday with Greek team Panathinaikos.

The deal is reportedly worth a little over $1 million, which would be around what a mid-first-round pick in the NBA would earn. Calathes was projected as a late first-round selection, but this is a draft strong in point guards, and he could have easily fallen to the second round, where the Pistons could have pounced with one of their picks at Nos. 36, 39 and 44.

If he had just signed a deal with the Greek team, he could still have been selected in the June 25 draft and the team would retain his future NBA rights. But Foxsports.com reported that his deal requires him to withdraw from this year's draft. He would still be eligible to drafted in 2010, but teams might have to pay Panathinaikos to buy out his contract, Foxsports.com said.Calathes, who is 6-feet-5 and 185 pounds, averaged 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and a Southeastern Conference-high 6.2 assists for the Gators last season.

Return to Detroit Pistons
