Saves can be a decent stat.
On another note, I still think it's hilarious that Byron got banned.

Re: Hardcore Keeper League
I'm a hardcore fantasy hockey guy, I'd love to join this keeper league. I'm a very active team owner, and a long time member of the RealGM community.
1. I'd like to have 4 D spots and 5 bench players.
2. I'd like to exclude PIM as a category.
3. I'd like max moves limit of 50 moves per season.
4. Suggested stats: Goals, Assists, Points, +/-, GWG, PPP, SHP, Wins, GAA, SV%, SO
If I could make two suggestions, please strongly consider removing face offs won as an offensive category. It really negatively affects the entire dynamic of the league because only centers can win faceoffs and so it makes them more valuable. Center is already the deepest position and if we give them a category all to themselves, it will just effect the balance of attack even more so in favour of having lots of centers. It would honestly be like having a category called "Left Handed goals" which benefits all left wingers or anyone with a left handed shot. I know this analogy seems far reached, but it would have very similar fantasy impact. I've been in dozens of pools, and the one offensive category that I've never liked due to it's imbalance is the face offs won. If you want a category of similar magnitude, replace face offs won with shots on goal. Having a category that only pertains to one of four (C, LW, RW, D) offensive positions is silly, especially when considering this is the deepest position to begin with (why waste an early draft pick on anything but a center?) I think you should strongly consider removing the faceoffs won category because it only benefits one position and negatively effects the balance of the league.
Secondly, on the same line as the first suggestion, I think that you should have only 2 centers and add a F slot. It adds for more flexibility up front and again takes away the emphasis on having so many centers. This will add more strategy, because its a dynasty league it's all about building a well-rounded, balanced roster and having 3 center spots takes away from the value of wingers which is what fantasy hockey value is based upon.
I'd love to be a part of this league, let me know.

Re: Hardcore Keeper League
Cool. Hey, I've got a few suggestions, just my opinon of course but I feel strongly on these topics. May I ask why the keeper rules are so odd are difficult? 3 forwards, 1 d, 1 goalie and 1 rookie? That takes away from the whole concept of a keeper league, and will force guys to drop players that are keeper worthy for a silly reason. What if you have 2 really good D-men... u have to drop one, thats silly. 7 keepers should just be 7 keepers, however you like them, thats what managing a team is all about, making those types of decisions. Putting restrictions on which players to keep severly handicaps the managers ability to construct a team the way they would like. Maybe some teams like to go forward-offense heavy, or goalie heavy... these rules really hinder their ability to stick with a plan. I think having to keep 1 rookie is a really silly rule because there are only a few rookies each year that are keeper worthy and it just makes the whole process far to difficult. Two or 3 teams will have keeper-worthy rookies, and the other 10 teams will have to scramble to drop a really good player for some crappy rookie because it's a rule. Strategy wise do you draft some random rookie? Are you forced to pick one up later for a really good player because you have to keep one? Each year a really good player will be droped unwarrented because you have to find some random rookie to keep for no reason. Sure it seems like a creative, clever rule, but in reality it will just cause more headaches than anything.
Personally, I dont like hits as a category, but it's not too bad... typically though I've learned that fantasy leagues are much more successful when they stick to the regulatory stats. It's the old age rule, the power of simplicity or KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid
). I've learned that leagues that become too complicated and throw in random stats for more 'action' often times just end out compromising the integrity of the league. Hits are just another random stat category thats hard to track and monitor and its hard to gauge the true fantasy value of hits. It doesn't tie in with any other category, and just sits on its own, winning and losing weeks randomly throughout the year. The guy who's team has the most hits will not finish with the best record in this category, it happens every time because as a stat hits are far too random each week. My suggestion is goals, assists, points, plus minus, game winning goals, powerplay points, short handed points, wins, gaa, sv% and shutouts.
Just my suggestions of course, I do a lot of this stuff so I feel strongly about certain parameters of fantasy hockey because I've seen it all. haha. Let me know, either way.

Royce, a large group of us in here also have a keeper basketball and baseball league, with random stats. We like the unusual ones because it adds a more interesting dimension and forces people to pay closer attention.

Re: Hardcore Keeper League
well im going to set a deadline of Sunday July 19, 2009 to be registered and confirm you are playing.
so Nick if you wanna ask lmallia again and mention the deadline
if anyone else can get a hold of Prigione and let him know that would be great too
I will email all 3 and let them know of the deadline....August and the draft will come quicker than we think and we still need to establish all the rules of the league

Re: Hardcore Keeper League
6 for 4D/5BN, 5 for 3/6
8 for keeping PIM, 3 for not
7 for no max moves, 4 for max of 50
Other stats: Shootout Losses, Shootout Goals, Saves
I like Saves, and I like Shootout Goals if they are counted, as well as maybe Shootout Save % instead of Losses. Hard to tell if those are options without Hockey being up yet.
First day of the season is last of Sept/start of Oct? 21 roster spots to fill, 11 current managers, so say we get 12, that is 252 picks to be made. I say we start the draft August 1st.

Re: Hardcore Keeper League
Alright, the 12 teams that are in, are in. As we didnt hear back from the rest.
The draft is going to begin August 4th, 2009 at noon.
OldNo7 will have someone outside of this league conduct a random drawing for draft order and have that posted on this board...then the draft can begin.
For all the rules check the first post of this thread.
Rules that were decided on by votes:
A) 4 defenseman, 5 bench players
B) keeping PIM as a category
C) no max moves
Categories added:
None. As we can all see from our baseball league, too many categories just complicates things. I have also removed Faceoffs Won as a category. Therefore we are left with 7 skater categories and 5 Goalie categories.

Re: Hardcore Keeper League
WOOOOOOO drafting!!!!
granted i have a problem with the order, since prigione and myself were in the finals last year, and the fact that mike is no longer in this league, i should have first overall pick by default...BUT in the light of sportsmanship i will agree to the order that has been set.
horrible time for a draft tho. pat cant go out and buy the magazines! especially since not all the players have finished signing to different teams might make it interesting.
but im all about interesting handicaps that allow the rest of you to have a chance at winning.
so good luck all.
