NBA has to do something about refereeing!

Post#1 » by klemen4 » Mon May 25, 2009 11:10 am

Yes, Lebron is MVP, but he cant be allowed to play like this. He takes the ball tho the rim like a tank, crushing everything on his way and he gets away with blocking fouls. And finally when sometimes he gets offensive foul all the Cavaliers complain like its the end of the world.

Referees alone can take the Cavaliers to the Championship because Lebron can take the ball to the rim on every play and as long as there will be no offensive fouls blown Cleveland can stay in every game.

I agree 150%. Correct me if I'm wrong but Lebron shot 24 free throws last night right? Both teams shot close to 80 or even more last night and what pushed me over the edge was the foul on Howard that got him his 6th foul. I have never seen a cleaner block. What else is new though? Have you ever heard of the Jordan rules? It happens now a days but now its the James, Wade, Bryant, Paul rules.

Crawford, Scott Foster guy, and the dude that threw Doc out for nothing during regular season are the worst. But hey, David Stern is a powerful man and he gets what he wants. There is now way it's not CAVS Lakers in the finals.

We've known this for years now and Stern has done little to nothing about it. A new commisioner could change things but I'm not optimistic. It'll never have the following it did in the 1980's and 1990's as long as the officiating continues.

Dwight shot 19 FT's and he gets away with goal tends on his blocks all the time. They do need to tone down the tacky fouls on superstars, like during our series with them last year.

Actually Cavs applied a Hack a Shag strategy in fourth quarter against Howard and fouled him intentionally a lot during the 4th quarter

+ 1 for keepin it real.

-2000 for the slurp job you've just performed on Lebron while on the Celtics board. :o

Seriously, if Lebron is that good, why give him extra help when 99% of the NBA can't stop him as is. That would be akin to giving a Ferrari a head start off the line when it's racing against Ford Mustangs.

Indeed, I find it ironic league had to create rules to limit Wilt and Shaq, but does everything to help Lebron.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?

Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.

Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

Is it really "extra help" though?

The clean block is a bad call, but the fouls are certainly legit. Some fouls can go either way, such as the block/charge calls.

But just the same philosophy for Shaq, just because he is so big and strong, does that mean the refs shouldn't call the foul when it's a foul, or when there is contact?

It is extra help when such a strong guy can bulldoze or "crab" dribble his way to 2 pts and if he doesn't make the shot they blow the whistle for FT's. Also all these phantom calls superstars like he and even our guys get are ridiculous to me they ruin the entertainment value. It's not like they won't be stars without the ref giving them calls, so what is the league scared of. The same goes for rookies, unless you are a high pick then you are not going to get any calls in your favor, kinda like the ref letting them know that they control their fate! The refereeing in the NBA is horrible!

You know what I find a little infuriating? They give him incentive to bulldoze his way into the lane and possibly hurt someone, whereas they call Yao extra tight because he's 7'6" and they think he can really hurt someone. I mean, he can, but so can a 250+ pound fast tank running into the lane, probably more so.

You HAVE to be a troll. You just HAVE to be. EVERY thread has a post from you swinging from LeBron's nuts, its ridiculous.

People like BRUNiNHO is the reason why I hate LeBron as a player on the court. Off the court, he seems like a great guy, but I feel like the younger generations of fans are all gonna get brainwashed by the media hype just like BRUNiNHO.

The media, refs, league, etc...are killing any chance LeBron has at surpassing Jordan. It's so blatantly obvious that he's being fabricated into the next Jordan, he doesn't even have a fair chance of doing it on his own.

He clearly stumbled and got a magical foul of course. And one ball in OT, when he made turnover but wanted to be Cavs ball as someone of the Magic touch it....he jumped up and down like a 5 years old kid who didnt get ice cream in the store, pathetic.

Have you ever heard of the Jordan rules? It happens now a days but now its the James, Wade, Bryant, Paul rules.

The Jordan Rules weren't what you seem to think they are. They were defensive strategies used by a few teams to limit Jordan, not a different way to officiate for MJ. I like the order you put those names in though, because that's definitely the pecking order in terms of getting the calls nowadays.

Jordan got a lot of calls but I feel it never was this bad. Wade in 2006 and Lebron now is just getting ridiculous. I think CroCop sums things up pretty well. Without the calls LBJ still goes down as one of the all-time greats barring catastrophe, but the league is trying to manufacture him as THE all-time great. I love how the hype machine constantly forgets to mention just how much the crab dribbling, blocking fouls, hand checking rules, and defensive 3 seconds helps LBJ. Sometimes I wish I could just watch Lebron play actual basketball, because I still think he would be amazing without being tainted, but the NBA just won't have it.

I guess part of it is Lebron not having much help on his team so the league gives him a few breaks, whereas the Big 3 are all legit superstars that get probably the least superstar calls, maybe because they don't need them as much. No matter what the logic behind it is, the current system really needs to be evaluated.

The funniest part about this was when they cut to Mike Brown during the huddle, and how he told Sideshow Bob "You're the reason as to why we're going to overtime! YOU'RE THE REASON! GREAT JOB!!!".

Mike Brown should have been talking to David Stern and the referees.

I have a funny feeling that David Stern likes the refereeing just as it is. It keeps controversy up, leaves the unexpected and impossible always on the table, and leaves a gray area for conspiracy. Stern may have a little more control than we think, after all this is a business. Might not be all that different than ole Vince McMahon's company. I'm not suggesting anything, but there have been times I've thought that the refereeing was so blatantly awful that there had to be something behind it. But yes, the referees have become a huge problem, worst of all major sports. More instant replay for fouls (not just flagrants)? Instant replay for out of bounds too

^^^Funny Feeling? Heh. We been saying for ages now the NBA seeks to extend series and plays favorites with the stars. Those two factors came to a head in the final part of the game last night. They were in the "do everything possible so the Cavs win mode" again..

That killed me. What he should have been saying to him was, "You IDIOT! How could you foul him with .5 sec on the clock???? YOU LOST THE GAME FOR US!!!", but that would only occur in an alternate universe where the refs are competent.
