Question from a Zards fan
I know neither team really likes each other, but in all seriousness I wanted to gauge you guys' interest in a trade scenario. Seeing as how LeBron really seems the only one that can score in this series, and even he's had his trouble, do you think Danny Ferry will come knocking again for Antawn Jamison if the Cav's lose this series? Jamison is a terrible defender but as a bench player who can score in a variety of ways and doesn't have to dominate the ball to be effective, I think he'd be a good pick up for you guys and it would be a salary dump for us. Obviously you want to keep LeBron and I think you need more offensively to get that done, but I also think its unlikely you're going to get a 1st team All NBA type player with the pieces on your roster. How about this.
Antawn Jamison and Etan Thomas(expiring) for Ben Wallace(expiring).
P.S. Mod's. Feel free to merge this if you guys have a trade thread, I didn't see one.

Well it certaintly is A LOT of money to take on... but I could see it being an option if all of the other big options dont fall into place. More than likely though the Cavs are going to wait until closer to the deadline where Ben's expiring is worth the most.

For their sake, I hope they do more with Ben's deal than they did with Wally's

I would of done something like this at the TD this past year but now I don't think I would. I would rather wait 1 year and see if we can land a PF like Amare, Dirk, etc via free agency.

Re: Question from a Zards fan
I think Vince Carter needs to be priority #1. If they can't work a deal involving Wallace for Carter, then they can start looking elsewhere. Carter can play the 2 alongside LeBron, and fits better than Jamison who is a tweener 3/4 and doesn't add toughness in the paint. They'd be better off getting a PF with the MLE.
But if Brendan Haywood comes back healthy, the Cavs would be interested in Gibson + Z for Haywood + Jamison. I would say the Cavs could add Sasha for Stevenson to that deal, but Stevenson probably wouldn't be welcome on the Cavs, lol.
That would make Cleveland nasty though, if they could move Wallace + Hickson for Carter and get Jamison and Haywood:
CC Haywood / Varejao
PF Jamison / Brandon Bass - part of the MLE? / Frye for the minimum? / Joe Smith re-signed?
SF LeBron
SG Vince Carter / Sasha
PG Mo Williams / West

If the Cavs are dead set on 2010, it will mean not competing in 2009-10 imo. They would need to let Varejao walk unless he accepted his PO (and they'd still need to renounce him in 2010).
Gibson needs to go to. He's a bad contract that runs past 2010. He just doesn't fit on this team because he's an inferior version or West and Williams who are all similar players, and undersized for the 2 guard spot.

Re: Question from a Zards fan
No, you can re-sign Andy to a 6/7 million per year deal and still have about $14 million in cap-space come 2010.
Gibson doesn't need to go and I wish we would use him more in the playoffs. He hit a wall this year and hopefully he snaps out of it next year but he is an important bench player for the future.
I just don't like buring cap-space for 2010 on someone like Carter.

Why would the Wizards want the Cavs' junk? Are you kidding?

A Wizards fan posted this.
But if the Wizards aren't in the playoffs at the trade deadline next year, they'll need to cut their losses. Wizards are in the luxury tax (and the luxury tax threshold could be lower next year). If the tax goes as low as $65M, the Wizards will have an $85M-$90M payroll. That means the Wizards could lose $10M+ next year. Since luxury tax is applied at the end of the year, if the Wizards did a Jamison + Haywood + Songaila for Z + Gibson + Lorenzen Wright + Darnell Jackson or Z + Sasha + Darnell Jackson, they'd save ~$8M.
You're right though, they probably want Sasha instead of Gibson, because his contract sucks. Then the Wizards could make another move to dump Stevenson and have $10M+ in cap space in 2010.
But then, fans think money grows on trees, and the Hornets, Grizz, and other teams losing money never dump contracts.

Dude...you're smoking a very serious pipe if you think the Wizards would consider such a awful deal just to help the Cavs of all teams in the NBA. There are other avenues in which to dump salary without destroying the team to help a rival. We have the #5 pick, and can easily use that to dump salary. even then, if the Wizards were that worried about saving money, they would have traded Jamison for Wally--but they didn't. And LOL at "wanting Sasha instead of Gibson" –– that's like saying we'd want dog **** instead of horse **** for dinner...

There is no rivalry. It's only in the Washington minds. I doubt the Wiz would deal with the Cavs though.

just discussing an offer made by a wiz fan here, so you need to police your own if you dont like the conversation. I personally dont think the Wiz would ever consider the scenerio, but stranger things do happen. I couldnt conceive that Wiz fan would ever forgive the GM if he were to help us out though. That would be a tough sell.

Sasha expires. Gibson does not. Why do you need talent if you're not making the playoffs?
And if the Wizards are in the playoffs, they aren't going to trade Jamison.
But you don't have to dump salary until the deadline since the luxury tax isn't applied until near the end of the year, so the #5 pick doesn't come into play.

The Wizards are just under 76 Mill next year far from 90Mill and no one would take that crazy deal.
