Rubio or Multiple picks
So based on the reports on rubio. His concerns aren't market size, but merely fit on the team. I've come up with a 4 team trade which I think is more than fair for all 4 teams involved. The question is which you would prefer #2 or #5,#6,#11 (which can be done by cutting out mem & sac)
NJ IN: #18, #28, C.Smith
NJ OUT: #11, SWAT
SAC IN: #6, #11
SAC OUT: #4, #23
WAS IN: Miller, Brown, Utah 1st
WAS OUT: Thomas, Stevenson, #5
MEM in #4, #5
MEM out #2
MN IN: #2, SWAT, Thomas, Stevenson, #23
MN OUT: Miller, Brown, Smith, Utah 1st, #6, #18, Utah 1st
NJ IN: #18, #28, C.Smith
NJ OUT: #11, SWAT
SAC IN: #6, #11
SAC OUT: #4, #23
WAS IN: Miller, Brown, Utah 1st
WAS OUT: Thomas, Stevenson, #5
MEM in #4, #5
MEM out #2
MN IN: #2, SWAT, Thomas, Stevenson, #23
MN OUT: Miller, Brown, Smith, Utah 1st, #6, #18, Utah 1st

I like Rubio, but I'd rather take my chances with 5, 6, and 11. Too many options there to significantly upgrade positions of need, IMO.

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
I'm still torn about what combo is the ideal fit with these picks.
I also waivers because I could see thabeet falling into the 5 spot, and curry & Harden going @3-4 when they wow ppl during workouts. This isn't horrible, but it affects who I'd likely take.
One or both of Evans and Derozan should be there @ 5-6, and lawson is my guy @11. with this draft order MN gets 2 guys who should be ready to fill a role on the wolves day immediately and 1 guy who can grow into a role. So that's most likely.
If Thabeet falls into that range then I'm probably forced to take evans and pass on derozan. Which upsets me.
Ideally I'd like to go..
Curry\evans\derozan

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
I'm willing to say that Tyreke Evans becomes a bigger star than Ricky Rubio, so I easily take the multiple picks.

I think evans has a better chance of being a star too. As does derozan, Curry, etc.

exactly why I'd take Rubio if we could. we just don't need to stock pile any more craig smiths or ryan gomes types, we have those players...we need star power like you said...if we could get rid of our picks and get 2 top picks I could handle that with a Evans/DeRozan type draft, but otherwise I would love to give up some picks for Rubio, definitely.

Maybe it's because Tyreke Evans reminds me of my point guard. A big strong, bull of a combo guard that easily muscles his way to the basket, but also does a great job of finding open cutters and shooters.

Man, that is a tough poll. Rubio can't miss, but with #5, 6, 11 we could rebuild our whole team! How about Curry, Thabeet, Gerald Henderson? I think if someone offered me those three guys for Rubio I would take it.

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
That's tough. We really aren't that far off of being a solid team, and Rubio could push us to that level.
PG-Rubio-Telfair
SG-Foye-Stevenson
SF-Gomes-Brewer
PF-Love-SWAT
C-Al-Thomas-Madsen
Then we could try to package #23 #28 to move up a few spots if needed to grab someone like Mullens as a project center? Or trade them away for future picks/SG/True center.

No offense, but if we had 5, 6, and 11 and ended up with those players I would spontaneously vomit.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Can it be considered spontaneous if you can point out the cause like that?
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

I don't think so, but if there's some spontaneous combustion going on, can you wait until I have my video camera? I'm gonna youtube that stuff.

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
We would know the cause, but I couldn't possibly expect us to have a draft like that and PLAN to empty my entire digestive system. I suppose I can take precautions and not eat beforehand, but full-body dry heaves don't sound like fun either. Let's just avoid the whole thing and have a respectable draft.

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
I like Rubio, but when you're talking about the draft it's tough to say he's for sure a star and everyone after him and Griffin won't be. It might very well be that the top two are Elton Brand and Steve Nash types and everyone else is a Raymond Felton, Brent Barry, Ryan Gomes, Craig Smith, or DeSagna Diop at best, but I highly doubt it. Now if you want to argue our chances for getting the player or players that are stars beyond the top 2, rather than pick the Foyes or Brewers of the bunch I'll certainly concede that argument.
5, 6, and 11 could give us:
Harden, Evans, Clark
Evans, Curry, Daye
Thabeet, DeRozen, Lawson
Harden, Holliday, Mullens
and all the combinations in between.
It's a good chance to fill a lot of holes and cover high ceiling and high floor players. Just a better chance for success.

Why is Ricky Rubio the sure 'star power' player? Evans and Derozan have just as high of ceiling, nearly the same age, better athleticism, better jumper. Rubio is great, but I'm not ready to call him a sure-thing yet.

Is it just my imagination or did the board turn on Rubio as soon we didn't get the 2nd pick?

Yes, but I don't know if that's why the board turned on him.
Had we gotten the #2 pick in the lottery, sure, I take Rubio, easily. But what it would take to move up to #2 to get him? No thanks.
