Bobcats War Room- Pick Sixteen - 2009

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Tue May 26, 2009 3:27 am

Our first non-lottery spot (the Detroit pick at 15) is now filled. James Johnson will fill the spot. And now we discuss our next topic, the Chicago pick at # 16.

Our listing of nine top remaining players via the five target mock drafts is leaving me exasperated. Tonight we will again have five point guards in the nine selections. Revolting! And has anybody noticed yet that ABSOLUTELY NO true small forwards have even made the nine???? What's with that? Back in November, everybody was saying..."After Blake Griffin, there's nobody there!" Well, by my count, we have two true power forwards elected to our big board, and two PF/C's (including Griffin) also elected to the big board. So, do you vote for a value point guard, or a need PF or SG?

I can see why some are going to call this a dud draft. If you need what they ain't got.............
trade out! Get it the best way you can. That's the name of the game.

But on the other hand, we may soon see three players from one school in the nine. Cryptoquote of the day " UBS IFFMT". Kudos to the first to identify the cryptoquote.

I don't want to get strung out and preachy. So, enjoy figuring out what you will do with tonight's nine! And thanks for voting! :D :D :D :D

If you are a point guard... ( Mills, Teague, Maynor, Flynn, and Lawson) you aren't a good fit unless D.J. or Felton is shipped out. I figure if we take a point guard in the first round, we can look at the trade wires come July 1st.

If you are B.J. Mullens, you'd best try Europe!

Leaving us Budinger, Ellington, and Lawal. Of this group, I like Ellington. He's kind of a pure SG, like Henderson. Since Henderson probably isn't available at 16, and Ellington is likely to be, I go Ellington here. His NCAA experience didn't hurt him like Budinger's might have. Lawal = Not ready for Prime Time.

Rebuttals, anyone????????

BPA. That is certainly not Ellington.

I went with Lawson.
Humble yourself.

The BPA is probably Lawson and if you are determined to get a 2 then Teague is far better than Ellington IMO. I went with Teague.

I'm going against convention and went with the athletic white American. If nothing else he would give us bench depth at the wing.

Does Chaz make a nice youtube spot? Can he be our Joe Alexander?

I selected Flynn. I'd like to dedicate the pick to my friend Will, who is a Syracuse Alum and declared over the weekend that he was worth taking at 12 unless Evans or DeRozan unexpectedly fell.

Flynn as well for me but I tell you what I would like to see. Get Sam Young, Henderson, and Budinger in the same work out. If Young looks legit, trade down to the mid 20s and get rid of Nazr in the process. But I can only dream.

I still don't think Flynn would overload the cats at the pg spot. DJ would just play more 2, which he pretty much does anyway.

A question for you. I have read some opinions of members of this board that feel that Lawson is not well suited to the Bobcats style of play. Have minds changed, or is it strictly individual interpretations of BPA with a crazy mix of point guards as the best available? It would be bad to have to take a player at a position that is already stocked, when we have other needs.

I guess I'm not really ready for another point guard. And D. J. would get killed as a 2 guard! (Which ironically would create the need for Lawson selection.)

To me, Lawson is a slightly less athletic, more injury prone Raymond Felton. And yeah, the BPA in this draft are all points, which is why I prefer we trade down and grab somebody like Sam Young, or Stanley Robinson in the 2nd.

Robinson is going back to school and wont be in this draft.

Thank you, Brother Dave. It looks like we still don't have enough assets yet to be able to figure out proper depth should we make a trade, which I believe we should at some point in this draft. But that is a by-product of being the new guys in the league. It takes a while to get that two-deep depth at all positions.

And durability is something we should all be looking at. We certainly have lost our share of man-games in the previous five seasons. We need conditioning, we need strength, we need a lot more luck in avoiding injuries than we have shown in the past.

Now, let's move on to pick # 17. Need to keep moving.
