Rivalry Duo's

Post#1 » by Biff » Tue May 26, 2009 10:30 pm

I started this thread in the player comparisons sub-forum, but thought it might be fun for us Sun's fans to debate this.

I'm picking the best player from two teams/eras that could be considered rivals and pairing them up. Which duo would you pick to start your franchise?

If anyone has any other good ones, let me know and I'll add them.

^Come on man that's nowhere near a rivalry yet. Until they meet in the playoffs they're just competitors...

VERY tough poll...I gotta go with Shaq and Duncan...both great passers, tremendous shotblockers and surround them with a decent PG and 3 shooters and good luck

Just because they haven't met in the playoffs doesn't mean they're not rivals. They ARE rivals, and we all know it. They love playing each other, and both of them give it their all every time. They should be on that list. Still, if we're talking about the past, Bird & Magic without a doubt, although Jordan & Malone is a damn good little-man, big-man combo.

Lol

As tempting as Bird and Magic are...

Have O'Neal and Duncan at the C/PF spot... and surround them with any players who can dribble the ball pass the half court line and shoot an open shot.... that team will be pretty darn good.

Olajuwon and Robinson both quadruple double threaths at the Center/PF spot.... is also handy.
Defensively that team will be BEST heads and shoulders and better than Duncan and O'Neal overall...

That would be equal to O'Neal and Duncan, except more versatile and athletic.

^Dunno man....Russell and Chamberlain were defensive beasts too....I don't see Hakeem punishing either of those guys...

And MJ/Malone is no slouch on D either...

Mike with Karl....

I would of paired Jordan with a defensive big and call it a day... Jordan averages 40ppg and Duncan/Robinson/Hakeem/Russel etc just play inside and defend.

Jordan was same year as Hakeem... so maybe pair both of them..

^yeah but not really rivals at all. Ewing was always road blocked by Jordan, even the highlights show it - like that massive block. Dream's two titles both came with MJ retired/not in game shape...

Agreed though, pair MJ up with Robinson/Shaq/Duncan/Dream and it's all over...

My pick was Mike and Karl <--(Like I am on first name status with them)

You have the best defensive guard as well as player. With a powerful big man. They were both major competitors and wore it all on their sleeves.

The only thing I am disappointed in with Malone is his bail out of trying to get a championship with the Lakers at the end of his career.
