Artest is such a low efficiency player. How many terrible 3s did he take in the postseason? But we could really field an ace defensive team with Rondo, Pierce, Ron, KG and Perk. Our offense might suffer some stagflation, but we'd be the favorites again, especially with two legit defenders to throw at Kobe, Wade and LeBrawn, KG and Perk to guard the tin and Rondo to attack the point and gamble on double teams. I'm actually a bit giddy just imagining that. His ability to play spot minutes at the 4, especially against the likes of Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu is big.
Still Ron's probably out of our price range. Wouldn't it be hilarious if he ended up in Detroit!
As glamorous a pick-up as Artest would be, Antonio McDyess looks better on paper. From a pure stats perspective, he's great, well above average in regards to shooting and rebounding, and he takes nothing off the table defensively. He doesn't help with wing depth or 3-pt shooting, two of our biggest needs off the bench, but he's such a huge upgrade to Scal and Baby.
I like former or current Raptor wings as cheaper options for wing depth. ILH already suggested Parker, whose weak defensively but very versatile offensively. I like Moon, but I'm not sure if Doc would play him. I also like Carlos Delfino.

Re: Who was Wyc referring to?
Pierce wants Artest in Boston if they're friends or not because he knows Ron puts the team over the top.
If you can't trade Ray Allen you still have to start Ron Artest -- IMO:
Rondo/Allen/Pierce/Artest/KG
Paul and Ron trade off on the PF depending upon the match-up. And if Ray gets an early breather (he'll need one) then you can bring in Perkins. It all depends on the team you're playing, but the Celtics could create problems for any team in the league with a range of starters from Rondo to Allen, Pierce, Artest, Garnett & Perkins.
But Ron is coming off a Rocket team where he was their biggest impact player and I'm sure, in his mind, their best player. Now you're going to ask him to take the MLE and be the third (probably fourth if not fifth) option on a Celtic team?
I just don't think Artest wants a ring that bad. He wants the payday that his antics have so often shorted him. Without the bodyslams and brawls, Artest is easily a near max contract guy -- but he's been paid less than half that.
