Iverson to Celtics

How does Boston feel about signing Iverson? Granted the price is right and the head is in the right place. I think he would be great fit coming off the bench with Eddie House.

No thanks. For a few reasons:
1) He's already gone on record saying he was uncomfortable coming off the bench with the Pistons, and that he'd consider retirement if faced with a similar situation. He's not starting in Beantown.
2) He couldn't fit in with the Pistons, even as a starter. He needs too many shots to be effective. That won't work with the Cs.
3) That ESPN article on Billups reports that he was partying till 2-3 in the morning while on the Nuggets. I can picture him, Walker, Giddens and Baby out having a good time way too easily.
4) KG will probably clash with AI. KG is intense. AI - "Practice? We talkin about practice?"

You just never know though. I didn't think there was any chance Ainge would take a gamble on Marbury. Anything's possible I guess.

With KG being such a positive influence you never know. You are right, he can be a cancer and affect the psyche of other young players on the team.

Couldn't put the team ahead of himself in Detroit so why would he change in Boston?

No Iverson. Let him go to a team where he can put up 30 points a game and the team finish with a 25-57 record. LA Clippers seem about right.

Iverson was always one of my favorite players. Even though he really isn't a team guy...I would much rather have him than Marbury. But he would never accept backing Rondo up, playing less than 20 minutes per game..NEVER. If he did though, than I'd be all for it..he is a great player IMO.

Iverson would be absolutely horrible with KG, Pierce, and Allen.

No thanks. I'm a fan of Iverson but not a fan of him on the Celtics.

He needs to retire if he's going to take the stance he's reportedly taking about seeing himself as only a starter. Come on, he must think he's Reggie Miller. Miller was a starter for his entire career, but this doesn't always happen for every star player.

Last year I would have said yes, but after this trade, no thanks. He is not dedicated to his team enough to be a winner.

He would be awesome on this team. Rondo can't shoot to save his life. House can't dribble to save his life. AI can do both. So what are we waiting for? Sign him up!!!

I would be extremely dissapointed if they got Iverson, the guy plays the exact opposite style of basketball that won us the championship. Besides that, he would want way too much money and would not want to come off the bench.

I have always thought the rap AI gets for partying is overrated, if your job ends at 10pm and you can't even get to dinner till 11:30-12:00 is it that big a deal for you not to get home before 2am? It was PP's MO for years, not everyone is Ray Allen.

That said I think it is over. I think he may end up with Larry Brown in CHA but outside of that I don't think a team can design an offense that can win with him.

Iverson is my favorite non-celtic. Probably ever. And I was hoping he would come here back when the rumors were rampant, before the KG hula. With this team, I still think he could fit, in the role Marbury played last year. But, if it will be cheaper, I would rather see Marbury back. He understood not to screw with ubuntu, and maybe a training camp with this team would make it more comfortable.

People really need to change their subject lines to something like:
Should the celtics try and sign AI. Subject lines like this make me think think there is some sort of rumor.

Anyway, if we have learned anything about AI this year it is that:

AI still wants to start
AI wants to be the man.
AI is not a type of player to take a pay cut to win a title.

I think AI will end up on the bobcats or the t-wolves where he will get paid and he will start.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

I have a ton of respect for Iverson, for how tough he's played the game given his size. That being said, I've never wanted to see him on the Celtics, my worst dread was that Big Al was going to be traded for him. That would have been so disappointing.

No way I want him here now. The guy can still shoot, but is completely selfish, and is defensively incompetent.

Also, you've to keep in mind that with House unlikely to exercise his option. You've no need for Iverson. House's role from the bench is to provide instant offense. But, if he's still here, why pay him and pay Iverson for the same role.

My bad. I can see how the subject line can be misleading. I do feel AI can be the "answer" next year for the Celtics (but with a huge *). I don't know how his personality would work with KG's. Would KG be able to keep him under control? If so, then yes. I do not think he will demand huge money. AI knows his value has dropped significantly.

The teams that are way under the salary cap, won't have an interest or don't need him. Any team unintelligent enough to sign Iverson for more than his actual value is doing so to attract more fans. Why in the hell would Charlotte or Memphis have an interest in Iverson, seriously? For the Bobcats, Felton's a free agent but they've Augustin. And Bell has filled in nicely for them at shooting guard. With the Grizzlies, you've Conley, Jr. and Mayo in the back court. Iverson doesn't want to come off the bench, so won't be starting there either. I just don't see Minnesota or any other team with money to spend this off-season lining up to sign Iverson. I mean I'll like to think even the Clippers aren't that foolish to gamble on him.
