Jays dish on losing streak and road trips

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Thu May 28, 2009 5:47 pm

The question of the day: Is this your worst trip ever?

The Blue Jays started their 2,580-mile journey a week ago Tuesday at Boston with a 31/2-game lead in the AL East.

They dropped three at Fenway.

They lost three in Atlanta.

And three in Baltimore as the Jays bullpen gave up nine runs yesterday afternoon.

Rod Barajas: "I don't think I've ever experienced one as bad as this one. We're playing like we need days off, a whole bunch of days off."

Alex Rios: "This one because of all the losses."

Lyle Overbay: "In 2006, we took three of four from the Yankees -- Vernon Wells hit a walk-off against Mariano Rivera. We go on the road in late July 21/2 games behind the White Sox in the wild card. We lose two out of three in Seattle, three of four in Oakland and get swept in a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Losing eight of 10 put us out of the playoffs."

Vernon Wells: "This one, although the timing of the 2006 trip was more devastating."

Interesting read... Brian Wolfe probably had the worst road trip story of all.

This was likely one of the most disappointing road trips I've ever witnessed, for any Toronto sports team, only because we were flying high before the slide happened, and then not to mention yesterday's dumb game, which put the cherry on the **** top.

Apparently it takes more than 10 runs, Doc pitching, and an Aaron Hill 2-run shot in the top of the 11th to win a ball game.

Toronto is cursed, although the Jays can turn the tide by sweeping the Sox this weekend

That 2006 road trip was so devastating as a fan. I was at one of the Yankee games just before the trip. It was great feeling, great atmosphere in the Dome, but AJ was allowed 120 pitches - he was never the same afterwards for the rest of the season.

For some reason, this last nine games doesn't feel as bad. It's still early in the season, the young 'uns are learning about pressure, and the Jays are still not too far out.
