Wasn't Melo's foul on Kobe in Game 5 a Frag 1?

Post#1 » by kevin_405 » Thu May 28, 2009 2:37 pm

I think the fourth Q foul on Kobe by Melo should have been a Frag 1, because he missed the ball and grabbed kobe by the neck. This is the 3rd instance in the series where Kobe has been targeted and as usual the Refs missed it.

i know George Karl was complaining about how we beat up Melo , but conveniently missed to mention the hard foul by Melo, where we would have got the ball back.

The refs have truly been inconsistent during the series when calling Frag, they call frag for Bynum for a hard grab at the ball in Game 4 and missed some easy Frag calls in Game 4 and Game 5.

i think at this point hoping for consistency out of the refs is a fool's errand

Indeed it was a flagrant. I believe it was a couple of years back (against Phoenix) they called a flag on Kobe and suspended him (during the season) for an inadvertent elbow. Also, the foul by Bynum in game 4 was ruled a flag 1. I think this should've been a flag 1. Clearly he got hammered on the play.

I dont care so much about the non calls but the sad part is we rarely dish it back.. except when we intentionally want to do it like the Fish foul on Scola, kobe's elbow on Artest and knee on Battier and the backcourt screen on Dirty Jones..

Dirty Jones was shocked at running into the screen.. U could see he was scared about contact after that.

We need to do that more and send a message that there is payback for such dirty plays..

I had made a prediction that the refs will call the game a little closely. As such, the Lakers will win and the Nuggets will complain about the officiating. Utter bull...given the way their bigs are playing, I am surprised they don't get fouled out by the 2nd quarter.

When complaining about inconsistency, PJ (and now George C.), was communicating why they are calling fouls differently on both sides. One team gets to play more physical while the other gets called for little tick tack fouls.

It should have been. Oh well. They won't do anything now that "Unidentified Nuggets Player" says the Lakers paid for our game 5 win.

The league calling it a flagrant one now doesn't do anything for us. The game is over and Melo is not close to suspension. So it doesn't matter, I think we should just move on.

it was and wasn't, i could have been because he hit kobe in the head, but from the replay it looked like melo went for the ball hit the ball but somehow hit kobe in the neck, and then went over to kobe, and i respect that.

It's kind of surprising how little respect Kobe gets from the refs. Don't get me wrong, they miss calls on him sometimes, bail him out sometimes, but overall...

the guy gets hacked, grabbed, pushed, tripped, clothes-lined, and it seems they either don't call anything at all or don't penalize the severity of the fouls.

Meanwhile, guys like Lebron and Wade are untouchable on both ends of the floor.

It's been that way for several years; I just find that a little curious.

I think part of this may be that Kobe doesn't really sell the fouls the right way. A lot of players fall down, roll around, and writhe in pain and force a stoppage in play.

Kobe just either gets up or yells at the refs.

You'll only get a flagrant call in your favor if you milk it after the play most of the time, which is ridiculous. Ariza had a hard fall before and if he was willing to just lay there, I bet the refs would have called a flagrant on it. Instead he bounces up quickly and you pretty much never get rewarded for doing that.

Ya but Kobe Ariza Lamar bounce right back up after they get hammered, unlike Rudy Fernandez and others where you have to go and grab a strecther and wheelchairs to help them off the floor, and the next game you show footage of the incident to pump up your crowds. CLASSLESS and they call us FAKERS.

any way u view it, it was a flagrant. he clothes lined kobe and last i heard u can't do that...
Just look at bynums swipe at the Andersen's drive to the basket.. (even that looked less painful).

inconsistencies is what we're seeing here.. NBA should definitely implement the replay factor. Since most of us have TIVO now.. and no referees are perfect.. The replay could really help eliminate our doubt with all these bogus calls.

Lakers will take it today.. unless the officials take it away hehe

It's okay. As long is Kobe was not hurt on the play.
