Bobcats War Room- Pick Seventeen - 2009

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Thu May 28, 2009 3:10 am

Sorry this didn't get done Tuesday PM, but I had an early alarm clock to take my wife to a doctor's appointment. Couldn't fit it in. :( :( My apologies to all. Now, let's get started on our new list.

At pick 16, our esteemed board chose Tywon Lawson of the University of North Carolina. This could be the start of a run on point guards because right now they are dominating this section of the remaining player pool. And I won't belabor that we are stocked at the position. Some of these guys may well be selected before 16 or 17, leaving someone at a different position to drop our way. Relatively speaking, knowing where these point guards fit in to our big board is good information... whether or not we draft a point. On a similar note, Lawson's selection helps us avoid the UNComfortable sight of seeing THREE UNC players in the nightly nine!

I also have meant to do a little plug for War Room - Second Track, a complimentary parallel to what we are doing here, with a slightly different twist. In Second Track, we try to take each team that will draft ahead of us and determine collectively who we think that they will draft (or trade out, if that is likely). In a bassackwards way, I like to think of Second Track as "Once we are on the board at 12, which players will be on the board that we likely be deciding from." If you haven't checked in on this, I'd like to invite you over for that after you finish here. :D  :)

And now without further ado, we move to our daily choice. Thanks for voting!

J. Flynn is in. Seriously, if we can get a penetrating point guard in here at 17, we will have some deciding to do. Who to keep, who to trade (or sign and trade). I don't relish that part of this, BUT the 2009 draft is gifted in points, and the whole idea IS to make our team better, even if I don't like it.

Flynn is the best player left on the board at this point and represents to me the best value we can muster at this spot. Rhetorical- "Now what will we do about trading a point guard?"

If going with the most talented player available, I like Maynor over Flynn. I realize I am in the minority on that point, but I am just not yet convinced Flynn can play at the next level. The handful of times I saw him, he did nothing on the court.

You're not on your own!! I'd take both Maynor AND Teague over Flynn.

Teague...

As for Flynn, I've seen too many quick undersized PG's with handles that can't shoot come into the NBA and fall on their face. Hopefully he isn't another God Shamgod/Sebastian Telfair/Omar Cook, but I'm not betting against it.

Hey guys do you want me to vote as if we were picking? If so & we had pick 17 I would say either Flynn or Teague... If we get rid of Felton then go with Flynn, if we get rid of Augustin then we should go with the combo point in Teague..

Sik, we are voting as if we were picking for the Bobcats ourselves. Looks like we know how you are voting on picks 17 and 18! :D

The weather kept me off last night, so I'm doing maintenance at work. See you all on pick 18! Ya'll come!

Jonny Flynn at 17.
