Q: What is it going to take to win a tough game 5 with the Nuggets?

SB: We have to execute our game plan on the offensive and defensive end. We have to play more physical. We have to be mentally tough when players are "fouling" us like the trip on Kobe. We just have to come out ready to play OUR game.

Q: You've played with Bron and now Kobe. Who do you like playing with more? Who's more competitive?

SB: Both of them are very super competitive. I didn't really have the chance to play as much with LeBron as I do Kobe. They are both great players, the only difference is, is that LeBron is six years younger that Kobe.

Q: What Lakers do you hang off the court with?

SB: I hang out with everybody off the court. We're a team. We go out to the movies and to eat. We're a close nit group. We just have a good time with one another.

Q: I personally think you are the future starting PG for the Lakers after DFish retires. Would you be willing to spend your entire career as a Laker, like Kobe?

SB: Defiantly, I would love to continue my career as a Laker. It's a blessing for them to give me a shot at playing point guard for them. I've never played that position before but I'm willing to take on that task.

I'm sure he meant "for them" as in "of them" just like he meant "Defnitely" instead of "Defiantly".

It was your typical chat, hence the typical grammatical errors, since he had to answer questions (type them up) as quick as he could.

Shannon is not a starter. He's seems like a blackhole in 30% of the spot minutes that he is given (although the other 70% is very productive). What we need is a guard who can really facilitate so we can start sticking Kobe on the post and conserve his legs for 4-5 more years.

That is the biggest issue the Lakers have. We barely run the triangle because our facilitator has to score. That leads to poor ball movement, too much standing around, and poor positions for rebounds.

Even if we get past Denver, we cannot match Magic's offense point for point the way they are playing now. They move the ball so well even in pressure situations that they always get a good shot. They beat us in two close game, and that was the time when we had great ball movement.

Would be nice to keep him, but Odom and Trevor take priority. Lakers pg position has been weak for the past few years. Only Fisher has been an upgrade back which is really sad.

If we don't sign Kidd for the MLE, I'd love to see Shannon Brown start at PG next season. He does exactly what a triangle point guard needs to do and he has the exact size that Phil likes — he plays defense, has decent to good handles, makes the right decisions on the floor and can knock down the open shot with ease. Not only that, but at his size, he's a freak of nature. He's quick as hell on his feet, he can jump out of the gym (says he can touch the top of the backboard).

That "journalist" needs to brush up on his lingo a bit.

SB meant that he's blessed to get to play point for the Lakers, not that they're blessed to have him as their PG.

I wish Fisher would take it on himself to tell PJ to let the players playing the best play. Shannon has done everything he can to earn minutes and push our momentum and he still gets benched at the drop of a hat. Its not fair.

Kidd at this point is faster and a better 3 point shooter than GP was in 04.

Shannon Brown has A LOT of potential to be a great player. He's played what? 18 Games after the trade with the Lakers in the regular season?

- He's explosive, very athletic
- He can knock down the 3 once in a while
- He is a decent to good attacker
- He plays physical but Smart defense

- The Lakers don't need a knock down every 3'point shooting PG. They need a PG who doesn't need to ball to play well, who can hit the open 3 at times. Who can attack off the ball because Kobe and the Bigs will draw a lot of attention.

- The problem with the Lakers and having Fisher, Fisher has lost a step, so when the bigs and Kobe get doubled, the defense recovers quick on Fisher, and because of the lack of speed, Fisher is forced to take a contested shot.

- With Brown, you kick the ball out, he makes a couple of 3's. You kick the ball out, he WILL fake and ATTACK with full force.

The Lakers have Bigs already, they have the superstar, they have the off ball defensive force in Ariza, and now they have the good on-ball defender and explosive player in Brown.

Brown is a serious keeper, especially because he's done so much with so little experience, seriously how long does it take for a player to fit into the triangle and make an impression on Phil? Pau fit right in, Ariza took a while and Brown has become an explosive player from the bench.

He will develop his shot in the off-season like Ariza did, and because he is a better ball handler, he'll be very explosive off the dribble. A good defender as well.

At this point, absolutely. Because the guy PLAYS HARD on both ends of the floor.

But he's hardly ideal. Phil Jackson just called him a forward trying to play guard.

He obviously doesn't understand the offense well enough to be a lead guard (but then again, Fisher and Farmar have been in the system for a while and still can't perform that role). He lacks some true playmaking abilities, I think.

But he's outplaying Fish and Farmar in every aspect of the game.

I think Phil should have developed him earlier, because we don't know if Shannon Brown is playing his ass off for a contract. Almost every player on our team has underperformed after signing a big contract, so I don't really trust the Lakers management as a good judge of character in this aspect.

I would still try to sign a capable veteran point guard, or trade for one.

That has been the Lakers' highest priority for the past 10 years or so, and they've failed miserably. I think the Lakers have had the worst point guard rotation in the past decade - I can't think of a team that had worse point guards over the last 10 years.

I like Brown a lot, but I wouldn't trust him to carry the position just yet. We're a championship caliber team, with Kobe still in his prime, and that's too much to risk to be banking on guys like Chucky Atkins, Smush Parker, Shannon Brown, an aging Fisher, and an ill-fitting Jordan Farmar, etc.

At this point, I'd try to package Farmar (still a potential starter on the right team) with other assets to land a reliable starting PG for our team, and have Shannon Brown be a backup until he can prove that he's dependable every night for the next 5 years.

Shannon Brown is a SG. I was surprised that Phil even put him in the PG rotation. His handles are alright but his play making abilities and absolutely zero and Jordan Farmar could atleast run the pick n roll pretty well. I'd love to see him resigned to back up Kobe and he's certainly fit enough to do that but asking him to be our lead guard is setting him up for disappointment.

I'd look to package Farmar and our 2nd rounders to offload some of the unwanted contracts (Morrison, Sasha etc) and look towards someone like Kidd or Bibby for a cheaper contract that doesn't run beyond 2011.
