Idonije gets extended

Post#1 » by Icness » Fri May 29, 2009 7:17 pm

Bears gave him a 2yr/$7M extension today. What does this mean?
--Gilbert will probably play more DE or as a DT rusher in the nickel package
--Ogunleye is in real jeopardy of not making the team
--they don't trust Dvoracek to stay healthy, nor should they

Good for Izzy, I love the guys who work their way up from special teams into quality players. I thought he improved tremendously last year, learned how to bend his legs without sacrificing his size advantage. Great guy to have as a utility DL, can play any spot capably.

Thanks for the info Ice, I was wondering what the difference is between Gilbert and Idonije? Your description of Gilbert's role above is exactly what I would expect from Izzy. Especially with info that Idonije has lost 30 pounds this off season and is looking to get some quicks back. He said he wants to report to training camp at 265.

I don't think its a bad thing to have 2 versatile DLineman who can play any position, just wondering if you see them as very similar players or if they bring different things to the table.

Did he use Extenze?

:o Wow.

Not that I don't agree or would even be disappointed. But If that happened wow. And that would be a very good "wow" because it would mean the team has a lot of faith in Gilbert & Anderson.

Is this based on opinion? Would be interested in the rationale as I was expecting better #s in his contract year.
Turn down for what?

Just looking at the roster, Wali looks like the odd man out because he doesn't play special teams and he has no long-term value to the team, not for what he's going to ask for in his next deal. It's my opinion that he and Anderson are going to be fighting for the same roster spot. That assumes Melton does what is expected of him and the 4 main DTs (Harris, Harrison, Dvoracek, Adams) all come thru camp healthy.

FYI Angelo continued his long-running string of getting rookies signed early today. All but Gilbert, Melton, and Iglesias are signed and the latter two could be locked up as early as Monday.
