OT: Sportsline with Bob McCown, July 1982

Post#1 » by Scott Carefoot » Fri May 29, 2009 6:21 pm

This is extremely O/T but it's just too damn good not to share with as many people as possible. It's a Youtube clip of Sportsline on Global TV when Bob McCown was the host in 1982. Dig the awesome/cheesy intro music, set, clothes and logo. You definitely want to watch through the first commercial break for some great early-80s ads.

Nice find. Bobcat looks awfully similar to a prime George Harrison, haha.

the old Fan590 studio was next door to my apartment on Holly.
once, i walked by and John Wells was outside having a smoke at 4:50ish with some quiet, bearded guy.
i walked up to John and gave him my regards and a quick comment on his dad, who was a legend in Winnipeg. the bearded guy was kind of watching and listening and it was only later did I realize that i didn't even give Bob McCowan a courtesy "hello".
dude is in his 50s now and looks young.
dude also fathered a child not so long ago.

I can't watch it, but I'm hoping it's like the old family feud board.

Just think, it was somebody's job to put those scores up by hand before the show.

I totally want The Score to replicate that set for Score Tonight next April Fool's Day. We could give Tim a horrific toupee and give Sid an awesome fake moustache. Of course, Cabbie would make a cameo with a huge afro.

It is funny that when they go from AL to NL, the camera just pans over.

Bob seems pretty sweaty on the show. Maybe dudes wearing make-up hadn't caught on yet.

It was weird to hear a trivia question without giving a website to submit the answer to. How the times have changed. Also, trivia without google is tough.

No, not quite that high tech. That show had a budget. This show, not so much.

But it was nice to see the Jays with a victory. It seems like 27 years since the last one.

Ha! I forgot about that old Global logo. I remember when I was a kid it used to remind me of those rack of ribs or whatever from the flintstones.

Just wondering, what happens if they run out of three's or four's to use on the scoreboard?

That better not be mocking Bob Ross. The greatest painter of a generation. I bet a little friend is living in one of those bushes. Or possibly in his hair.

I'm not mocking him. He was the first thing I thought of when I saw the clip of McCowan, which probably means I need some serious help.
