This summer's free agents: is it worth a run?

Post#1 » by big L » Thu May 28, 2009 7:33 pm

Do you take a shot at Ramon Sessions and The Bird Man? Two role players, but they fit our immediate needs for depth at the point and interior defense. Will these two players simply ask for more than they're worth? Or will the recession take enough bidders out of the equation to give Presti and the Sonics some space to deal? Will we find equal skill sets in the draft?

Personally, I think Sessions wants a starting role but does not deserve one. As for Anderson, he is in a perfect situation right now, but would produce less if forced into a more prominent role. Still, they are interesting pieces when considering our immediate needs.

I like sessions, but i am not sure we need him. Bridman is good as a spark off the bench, not sure he's anything more than that.

Oh, I think we could use Sessions--who's our back up point? Sure Watson will be out of the picture. We could draft someone at 25, but it would take anyone (Mills, Collison) a year to grow into that position. Having said that, I think Sessions is looking for a starting gig.

Sessions isnt going to leave the bucks for a backup job.

Birdman ain't going back to okc where he got wrapped up in the drugs.

Gortat is the guy we need. 30 million over 5 years. Great value even if he ends up a backup. I think we get a backup pg in the draft. Mills, lawson, maynor, or collison will be available

I think its safe to say that Birdman was doing drugs long before he came to OKC....

I honestly don't think we need to go out and get anyone big this year. Save the cash and continue to build the core.

That's an interesting take on the Birdman, mattle, and I obviously agree on Sessions. The thing he needs to ask is where will he be a starter?

As for Livingston, I still have trouble seeing him as our solution at the back up point. We do need outside shooting, though.

i say we get none of them grab a pg in the draft, and for anderson i dont seem him as the main center, and he is gonna demand alot because of what he has done in the playoffs, so i say none of them, we should try and save cap room for 2010! =]

The Birdman is 30 years old already, but it's worth a try.

I don't think we need Sessions, he often overhandles the ball and in the Thunder he could be another Eral Watson (a role not well defined).

I prefer Gortat to The Birdman.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of upcoming unrestricted free agents?

I guess I could look through the restricted list but it's rare to pry a restricted free agent off of another team with out over paying.

Here you go. Unrestricted list is first, then restricted, then possible ETOs:

I'd wait for the core to develop another year, and then get an FA who compliments the team well. There are still too many question marks (is Westbrook a 1, is Green a 4) and some obvious weaknesses (interior defense). No sense in committing to a guy until roles and the system is a little more established.

I'd take Trevor Ariza. I dont know about Gortat though... Feel like he could be easily overpayed.
Von Wafer i'd take a look at too... Been scouting him since he was on Denver, I question his defense though. Rasheed Wallace wouldn't be a bad one-year deal player if he's looking to score big on teams who missed out on the Wade/LeBron/Amare/Bosh free agency frenzy. Dont know about Birdman either - that looks like a longshot.

I think Gortat is a solid backup, not sure how great of a starting center he would be. I think he will be well overpaid by someone and I hope we arent the ones to do that.

I dont like Ariza so I hope we dont end up with him. He seems like he could get overpaid too. I'm just not sure. He could end up falling off like Vujacic did.

I have heard the Birdman wants to stay in Denver. I would love to see him back here though.

Wafer is an interesting player. Watching him in the playoffs, he could really put up some points quick. But he does take some horrible shots. Could be a nice pickup for cheap.
