Lets get Delonte back/!

Post#1 » by Bcustom28k » Sun May 31, 2009 4:29 pm

What do u guys think it'd take. I know cavs and c's are not likely trading partners but if Marbs leaves i say we go for it. Id gladly give up Big Baby and a 2nd rounder... maybe thats too much. what do u guys think.

I really like Delonte, but Big Baby's a free agent, and even if it was a sign and trade, it's real tough to trade a big man for a wing player, when we have a bunch of young ones that we might be able to start counting on next year off the bench (Giddens/Walker).

That and we need big men, we shouldn't be losing anyway.

Free agent guard Stephon Marbury displayed his interest in re-signing with the Celtics by keeping his Waltham apartment near the practice facility. He was at the facility, shooting, a day after the team's season ended. Swingman J.R. Giddens also stayed in town and is doing two-a-day workouts in Waltham. Giddens is hoping to impress the Celtics during the summer league after spending most of last season in the Development League. Boston Globe

Maybe in 2 years when his contract runs out in Cleveland and Cavs without Lebron will be the worst team in East :)

I like he is a competitor, never gives up, developed good midrange game, post up game game, can hit 3pt...great guy to have as backup pg/sg.

im laughing at some of these posts. Delonte is hardly a wing. He is naturally a 2 , but is ideally a PG.

and Delonte is a plus defender. so i dont know why someone posted that he is not good on D.

Perfect backup SG/PG for this team

ha ha ha
Delonte is not good on D because he is too short to guard 2 guards and too slow to guard points.... gambles too much (which is minimized if you have a 7'3" center and 7'0" PF). I watched him play for years, oncluding point on one of the worst Cs teams ever. Great fantasy player, so please draft him and his 'plus defense' for your team ha ha ha

you are right tho, his proper spot is backup combo guard where he can play against lesser talent.

He's Eddie House with a little bit more size at best. Even before the Cavs got Mo, he was the 2 there, not the 1, even with how ball dominant and great of a handler Lebron is. Nothing you want even out of your backup PG. I'd much, much rather bring Marbury back. He's a better defender and a much, much better playmaker at the 1.

Why? Big Baby is more important to us than Delonte West. We need bigs. Besides, Delonte West = overrated. You seem him padding his stats last night? LOL

I was a big Delonte fan when he was here, but as to the idea or trying to aquire him in a trade.. not realistic and no thank you. We need some size on the front line more than anything, and if Marb's departs a playmaker to back up Rondo, not to mention a real wing defender. Delonte is none of those things, he's a combo guard and a good one IMO, but not someone who is really going to fit a need for this team.

I like hearing that Giddens is working hard, I think he is going to surprise some people. He was a really good all around college player.

The C's already have a midget shooting guard in House, no reason for another. There is much better places to spend money or move players for than Delonte Freakin West.

Delonte West would look good in Green again. He's just a solid player. He never kills you when he's on the floor. He is such a sound player, even on a great team he'll find a role and thrive in it. Is he limited? Yes but every team, especially the Celtics, could use him. He'd have looked really nice instead of Marbury or whomever was stinking it up on the 2nd unit.

Here's the problem though. I don't see Cleveland trading him though, do you? Boston is one of their arch nemeses right?

For Pete's sake! He's still better than Banks but, though he's my old avatar, I want a better player at the 2, he's kind of a junk player with his little neat post moves and all, but he takes right side layups with his left hand, what's up with that and he's the epitome of streaky......argh, I'm siding with Pete on this one....

Wow, seems like there's a lot of Delonte hate in here. Did he say he hated Boston or something, I guess I must have missed something since he left town? I agree that there's not really a spot for him here right now with Eddie House on board, but my god guys....

He posted a 114 oRtg last year.
He posted a 104 dRtg last year and a 14.1 opponent PER (both rate him as an average to good defender, and on his career he grades out as an average or so defender).
Has really developed his ability to create his own shot, especially a nice little pull up mid range game (Eddie House comparisons should end here).

I know he's not an all league player, and he's not someone who's really going to create for others, but he's a heck of a solid all around player. He's a perfect fit next to LeBron, and next to any ball dominant superstar quite frankly. Would I want him as my starting SG or PG? Probably not, unless LeBron is there to mask his weaknesses, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better 25-30 mpg 6th man backing up the 1 and the 2 this side of Jason Terry. I've never been a big Delonte fan, but to pass him aside like he's some random scrub isn't giving his game and his ability to contribute to a good team nearly enough respect.

Thankyou!! its not like im saying hes going to be our savior or replacement for Ray. I think hes much better than House and Marbury on this team- unless Marbs comes back and learns more and gets his shot goin
