SHOULD WE BUY A DRAFT PICK

Post#1 » by kooner » Mon Jun 1, 2009 2:50 am

It's been reported due to financial issues the suns and the hornets are selling there draft picks and I think we should buy one them to draft a decent player that can help us. we should try to find a good back shooting guard who can shoot the three pointer consistently or a good back up big energy guy like Ronny Turiaf was. the suns have the 14th pick and the hornets have the 21st pick. I think we should buy one of those picks to help our team.

Just another reason to raise ticket prices.

history dictates that a Suns pick sold for cash = near future allstar.

I live in Phx and they are not going to sell their draft pick. They have no pick next year and cant trade the pick but can draft someone and trade him.

If someone gives us a good draft pick for a combo of Ammo (Expiring this season)/Farmar I'd gladly accept.

IMO, this team does not need a rookie if we can somehow keep the team together. as a matter of fact, i wish we could do something with the picks we have. The chinese magic needs some burn!!! As for backup SG... i refuse to pay sasha all that money to have a rook take his place. oh hell no! he is gonna be forced to earn that money. The only area where this team needs serious imidiate improvement is at the pg position. We need someone experienced there. Packkage Ammo and Farmar( hate to say it) for someone else that's gotten some burn in the league.

bottomline. NO to any additional draft picks. i dont even think theres a point to the ones we got right now. Keep the team together. Get a non-Aaron Mckie/non-rookie pg.

if the right player is available, why not?

Our PG position could/should be improved..

The draft could be useful.

Phil doesn't play rookies. Forget it.

I think high draft picks will be easy to come by in this weak draft. It would be a good idea to add solid prospects to grow along with Bynum and Ariza.

Keep in mind, Pick 29 will run the Lakers about 830k in first year salary - doubled (1.66mil) since they'll be in the tax...
If they move up into the teens, they're looking at double that.

It's quibbling but after dealing with the FA's they may not be wanting to spend 1.66 mil or more on a guy who will most likely be in the NBDL.

I'd think they may deal 29 since it is guaranteed and take their chances with #42, non-guaranteed and mostly likely a guy making 500k or so like Yue was. #59 will probably be a Slava Euro-stash-inaitas type.

I got it!

Lakers Trade: Farmar and Morrison
Knicks Trade: Chris Duhon

New York gets more cap space for 2010 with Morrison coming off the books. They get Jordan for 2 years and he could really thrive under D'Antoni because he can shoot the 3 and is quick. Plus if they don't like him his contract is up in 2011.

Lakers get 2 years of Chris Duhon playing solid defense and being the seasoned vet for our bench.

what do you think?

No, I don't care about picks anymore. I had just care about them when we were struggling 2 seasons ago and we needed draft. Besides being focused on our championship road, we still have to worry about Ariza and Odom.

Umm, you facts are all crazy. Duhon expires in 2010 just like Ammo so this will not help NY with that.
Also, this will cost NY an extra 1.2 mill next season (Ammo+JFar =7.2, Duhon =6) just to see if they like Farmar... costly since they're in the tax it'll be nearly an extra 2.5 mil for the tryout.

I wouldn't mind Duhon for a year as a Laker fan but don't see why NY does this... unless D'Ant just hates Duhon's game for some reason, but Duhon played 37 mpg for him this year so I don't think that's the case.
